What do they spray on hands before a match?

Ive seen players before they enter the field or score a try spraying something on there hands.

Im guessing its a anti grip spray so you can grip the ball better/catch the ball more effective?

Is this correct?

If so, how come the spray is covered up so you done see what it really is?

Yeah it's something to help hold on to the ball.

I remember in a match someone (going to say Ashton Sims because it sounds like something he would do) sprayed too much onto their hands and when he got up to play the ball, the ball stuck to his hand and he ended up kicking it forward with his boot

Why would they use ANTI grip? ;-)

Could be Stick'um it comes in 3 forms. The first is an aerosol spray. the second is a paste that comes in a jar, it's messy and the residue transfers onto everything you touch and the third is a powder which is not as adhesive as the spray or the paste

The strapping ng tape companies produce a spray on adhesive for use under the tape....usually it's that
Not sure why it's covered...perhAps because it's not it's intended use....

Beau Scott seems to spray this stuff on at every stoppage.

Maybe something to do with his huge amount of drop balls early in his career

bwahahahah oh wait i know whats in there.......

how effective is that spray in terms of handling and passing? i do remember the player getting the ball stuck to his hands, but i thought it'd actually make passing harder if the ball doesnt want to release from your hands.

I used to use it when I played quaterback in Am football. It is pretty good for grip and doesn't hold the ball when you pass it. Nerves creating sweaty hands hence why players use liberal doses for first few minutes of each game.

On to a related item, do the little grip cirlcles on the chests of players jerseys actually make any difference?

I always hated using the spray, but my old coach was convinced we needed it...

Honestly, it actually doesnt help with grip; its more of a mental thing, like the old Balance-WristBands.

Im surprised they still use the stuff honestly.

They actually do. (the old wrist tape did something pretty similar too)

Nothing magical; if you cant hold the ball to begin with, it wont help. But holding the ball one-handed against your chest, it does add friction so the ball wont slide off your jersey when you hit the ground...

When I played yawnion, on cold wet days where I'd struggle to grip the ball to throw a line-out this sort of stuff would inevitably come into play.

Performance enhancing ?

Super sticky gloves, tried these when I moved to outside linebacker and they def helped catching the ball. They even do them to match the new ISC jerseys!
