What do you think of the new stand(s) at the SCG?

I have not been to the SCG since it's recent development. So my opinion is based totally on what I have seen on TV during this test.

The new stand looks quite impressive. But I wonder does it fit in with the rest of the stands?

A couple of weeks ago I was in Melbourne and took a tour of the MCG. Now that is a very impressive stadium. All the stands there fit in with each other. I know the criticism of the MCG is that they got rid of all historic stands.

Here in Sydney, we have great historic stands in the Members Pavilion and Ladies Pavilion. But with them we have a assorted style of stands.

I sat in there for Day 1. Me and a friend had members passes but couldn't find a seat anywhere as everyone had stuck their blue 'reserved' sticker on the seats. It was literally impossible to find a spare one, let alone 2 next to each other. This goes for Members, ladies and the Noble. All except the sightscrren affected area which is also channel 9 camera-man affected.
So with about an hour before lunch we decided we would go have a drink in the pool area and come back at lunchtime and see what we could find while everyone else was out. We ended up on the 2nd floor of the Noble stand and once again, blue stickers everywhere. But this time we just sat in one if them and said if whoever reserved it comes back we will get up for them, but they never came back and we sat there for the rest of the day.
The inside bar area is fantastic too. I recommend you check it out if you can.

This was our view. Very good in my opinion. The photo doesn't really do it justice but my eyes are shithouse and even I could see everything clearly from there.

Love it. Time to re-do the Churchill and Brewongle stands and eventually cank the Members and Ladies. Still, MCG absolutely shits on SCG for facilities, food and drink outlets, merch and getting in and around and out. Tap and go bars... Sydney long way to go.

I was in the Trumper stand today. Middle of that pic on the far left. Bascially right behind bowlers arm. Your right, ive taken photos and it is easily better viewing with the naked eye than from the pics

Agree with MH, SCG a bit behind the MCG

At MCG you get pass outs. Can pop to the pub for lunch, let the wife go and shop at Boxing Day sales for a bit, take kids for a walk or a hit outside... They scan you out and back in.

I had a pass out from about 10 mins before lunch break today until the end of lunch. Sat and had a few schooners at pj's next door. Just walk to the exit near gate e and tell them you smoke. Give you a "smoking pass out" and come back whenever you feel like. Best idea ever!

Is that members only? Gate E is where I go but signs everywhere saying no pass outs. Never tried mind you.

Haha yep signs everywhere saying that but you just walk to the gate and they give you a card. Was even out in the milo zone giving some tips to the kids playing in the nets! Best lunch break ever. Disappointed by the Barmy army today though massively, expected way more...oh well guess they had enough of that rabble too. Cannot believe we won the game today, a good hour plus before stumps. Insane lol. Didn't even miss a ball of the big bash after my 2 hour trek home!

Will wait until it is 100% finished but I didn't like it. Maybe I am a traditionalist I guess, just seemed it lost a bit of the 'feel' of the SCG. Similar with the ugly Adelaide Oval now.

I believe the long-term plan is to re-do the O'Reilly and Brewongle/Churchill stands to make it a consistent look

I've been in the members stand. It's an antiquated shit hole. Still, picturesque and plenty of nostalgia but a 19th century shit hole all the same. Line up at 4am for a seat? Puh-lease!!! Ladies should go first and if they want, keep the members stand...but it's time to let go and move on IMO. As a cricket watcher at SCG, I watch my tests from the concourse so what would I know eh?

Besides the Members and Ladies stands, all of the other stands were built post 1980 so they aren't exactly traditional.

At the moment the new stand looks a bit out of place but it will be better when it is complete and the other stands have been redone to fit in with it

absolutely disagree. Adelaide Oval shits on every other ground for ugliness sake now. Sickening. SCG at least retains some of the feel and it looks like they are trying to keep it that way.

Some of it. As I said I'll wait till it is finished, but I hated it this year. Doesn't bother me, I'm in the Members Pavillion every day, but still I hate the stand so far.

Hey guys, I sat in the stand all 3 days. Lots of complaints (selling tickets for seat 19 when the row stopped at 18, although my friend who use to work at ticketek said that was his fault), no roof and so many reserved seats. Like most said, the camera makes it seem much further out but these are my pictures of each day.

Day 1, level 4 3rd row in reserved seating. Didn't get shade till like 3pm but would be fine when the roof was finished.

Day 2, level 2 back row in reserved seating. Pretty sure I used zoom at like 1.6x but this is closer to how it looked from the eye but still worse.

Day 3, level 4 3 rows from the back unreserved. Had shade till 4pm so pretty much all day, would have it all day when the roof is finished.

Still pretty rough around the edges, using portaloos and shit on level 4. I was happy with it though, lots of decent food and hardly and wait time for the beers which is what you want. Lots of standing areas as well. Could quite happily stand around all day with mates and still have good view of play plus tvs to watch everywhere.

Media and corporates for level 3 get in from the bottom floor just in the public section.
