What ever happened to Scott Muller?

Scott Muller fits the mould of several players over the years - the names Scott Muller, Matt Nicholson, Simon Cook, Paul Wilson - they're all one or two test players who emerged on the back of one or two decent seasons in First Class cricket.

These players, besides Wilson, were young, inexperienced, but produced a couple of 5 wicket hauls, bustled out a few decent batsmen, and suddenly found themselves, on the back of Australia's injuries, in the Test side filling in for people.

Muller was always going to struggle to keep his spot in Queensland's side. They have the likes of Bichel, Kasprowicz, Noffke, and others (Hopes and Dawes + Hauritz) who have since emerged, all competing for spots in a side already full of talent. Muller's bowling performances were limited to one or two good matches in a season of average consistency.

In the couple of seasons after leaving the Test side, Muller struggled with knee problems - 18 months he was out for before returning to the Queensland one-day squad in early 2002 - played perhaps one or two matches then was outed again - hasn't been back in there since in either form of the game.

His stats were quite good - 102 F.C wickets at an average of 23 - his test career wasn't quite as flash - bowling average of 36, just the two tests.
