When will the new teams join the comp?

IMO it would be foolish to include 2 new teams in a single season - better to stagger the introductions over 2 consecutive years. Less strain on the player market, more 'free' publicity such as the new team unveiling their coach, their first player signing, appointment of the first club captain first game, their first win, first loss, first derby game etc.

As to when? If a decision is made on at least one expansion team by June, introductory seasons of 2014/2015 would be possible, otherwise it will be 2015 and 2016.

At this rate 2028!

2 teams are needed to add the value to the TV deal of an extra game a week.

Better for the tv rights in 2015 if 2 teams are added...
Adding one does not give you an extra game weekly to sell .

Agreed, I think we need to add both teams at once. The AFL had the advantage of having money in the bank so they could prop up that club for that year before the new TV deal kicks in.

We can't do that, we need the funds from that extra game to support any such expansion clubs. We may however be able to save a bit of $$ if the new TV deal is in place for 2 years before the expansion.

I did like the idea of giving each team a year of hype alone though.

What I reckon would happen is that each current team would be assessed need to show cause to keep their license. Similar to the assessment which resulted in Souths being booted from the competition.
ARLC would encourage weaker teams to relocate (even partially) by offering incentives.

I think we are a long way off in adding new teams. We need to strengthen the existing teams first.

Should be 2014. Or maybe the Reds in 2014 and the Jets in 2015. That way we get to milk 2 years worth of publicity away from fumbleball.

2015, shore up the existing teams make the comp ultra competitive so its a tipsters nightmare and then smash the AFL by bringing in 2 new teams.

Out of interest how do you think the existing teams will be "shored up" during 2013&2104? If you are talking about the money that would have gone to the expansion teams that works out at around $750k a year for each club for 2 years. Is that really going to make much of a difference to clubs?
