Lote went to the first Auckland 9s, and from memory he really struggled with the pace. 2 years retirement wouldn't of helped things.
I thought merritt was still playing a lot of local park footy, so would be relatively fit?

McCarthy,IMO,is Sth's best ever forward---Sait was a brilliant ball player;a tremendous & classy player.

Coote too--he was quick for a forward & mopped up everything in cover!!
