To the OP - discuss what? .
The position of women in Islamic states ?

The position of women in the Koran?

The position of women in Islamic communities within western societies?

Roles and responsibilities of women to uphold Islamic values?

    What?

It's pretty hard to align yourself with a feminist perspective when your fundamentalist Islamic family don't give you a chance to go to school and learn anything different from what you are taught at home .

It's all well and good for Muslim women in. Britain and Australia to talk about Islamic feminism .But that's really preaching to the converted.

There are women treated badly in non Islamic countries by non Muslims too so there is no need to discuss this topic.

    Up to you.

As you said, all good discussions broaden themselves, so why not start broad?

I feel this is an important issue which deserves further discussing, and I am interested in whatever you have to say on this broad topic?

    I'll start it however.

Do you believe that women in Islamic majority states across the world are treated substantially worse than women in non-majority Islamic states?

I'd veer towards yes with some exceptions globally. What about you? And what do you think of this issue?

Well I don't think of it in terms of worse or better .Just if they are oppressed and suffering is enough for me to think that their culture is problematic.

I have discussed this with friends and I reckon that one of the fundamental problems is with the lack of educational opportunities offered to women in Islamic states .If a woman doesn't have the opportunity to explore a world outside the one she is shown then she will have limited life chances .

I know Spock and the other crusaders against my bigotry will say that this happens in some communities that aren't Islamic as well .I would say rarely ,and hardly relevant since we are talking about Islamic states.

Whichever way they want to paint it, it is the fundamentalist Islamic ideology which leads these communities to oppress women and girls like this .

So when we fail to address the elephant in the room we condemn the women and girls of these communities to a life of servitude ...all in the name of not being offensive to moderate Islamics .Most of whom have access to incredible opportunities in western countries under western secular ideologies .

    Go figure the equity there.

These are all excellent points. Educational opportunities are limited in many Islamic states towards women.

What Islamic states are we talking about here?

For Instance, in the worlds largest Islamic majority state, Their is a higher percentage of women in tertiary institutions than there are men.

With regard to maturity when it comes to breaking the rules isn't it 9 for females and 15 for males in iran. ?

In Saudi women have to be segregated at work, though recently they've had a win and can practice law.

I thought that Muslim feminist chick was pretty cool. She wasn't taking any shit from men.

Btw the Muslim women habibs that they wear around here are quite stunning.

    Btw once again Patriarchal societies.

Muslims raised in the West have far more of an understanding of women's rights then Muslims raised in some parts of the world.

Don't you mean the hijab ?
Is that meant to be a little bit of masculine humour or just showing your ignorance ?
