My biggest WTF's are: Scotland (4), Malta (17), Belgium (20) - all of which have either zero or very little domestic activity. Though I'm not sure that even comes into consideration anymore when doing the world rankings.

pretty sure it's based purely on national team results. Scotland will drop very shortly I think.

The biggest wtf is seriously PNG. Problem is they don't play enough games and when they do its usually against top 3 or Fiji, so wins are rare. They should challenge the teams above them 1 by 1 over the next 3 years. They'd wipe the floor with at least 8 of them.

Not including the WC, the following nations haven't played a test match this year:

Scotland
Ireland
Russia
Belgium
Ukraine
South Africa
Latvia
Morocco

Most have only played 1

There is no bigger issue in international Rugby League.

Scotland will drop big time when they fail to win a game in Pool B. PNG should make the quarters so they’ll go up.

Despite not making any news in forever i'm told Latvia are indeed still active
Last match was against Spain on the 9th of May 2015, there's been nothing doing since. and Morocco must be getting close to a decade of being inactive.

The sport is banned in Morocco isn't it? I'd say the RLIF are loathe to cull anyone off the list til they get Sport Accord

Yep, they definitely had some serious heat from RU there, I don't know the exact details though.

System has major flaws

Lets look at Scotland and Lebanon against the same opposition a NSW Country U23 team last week

Lebanon won and Scotland got smashed

Yes it will never be spot-on or completely 'current'.

I just noticed something else, why aren't Poland there? They are now observer members of RLEF and RLIF and I think have also played a full international against Hungary earlier this year.

How does Soccer deal with the cross Federation rankings ?

Solomon Islands could beat Scotland

Would the Solomon islands beat the Scotland team that drew with NZ? Nope!

A full strength Scotland with coote,Wallace, linnett etc is easily a top 4,5,6 team.. easily...

Its like if Tonga didn't have taumalolo, fifita & tui...they'd be nothing to shout about

Wales (9th) but get decked by the (16th) ranked team 50-6.:)
Scotland (4th) also got decked by an U23 NSW Country side. :)
Niue (31st) ran Lebanon (18th) close.

Grain of salt league rankings.

Wonder about a system like ranking against team rather than points

Beat a team by

1-10 -1 ranking levels lower
11-20 - 2 rankings levels lower
21-30 -3 ranking levels lower
31-40 -4 ranking levels lower
41-50 -5 ranking levels lower

Start with Australia at ranking level 0

Agree Samoa, Tonga, PNG and Fiji aee pretty even

Though PNG had dropped but seems to be recovering from the Mal era

Cook Islands and Niue are just a few notches behind. About the same as Lebanon and Ireland

France is next

With Wales and Scotland about 5 notches behind the Pacific 4

Then Italy and USA and Malta

Solomon Is and Vanuatu with Jamaica and

Canada & Serbia

Then it rest of Europe / SE Asia / Africa / Dth America

You guys are far too concerned with the result of one game. This is the worst Scotland side in years.
The rankings don't change depending on who's injured and who defects to Tonga, no such system would be possible.

The #1 flaw in the rankings is that most teams don't play enough games against a range of opposition.

They're not just any old games, they are World Cup games, the supposed pinnacle of sport.

Anyway, what I would like to know is were those 'injured' players who pulled out of the World Cup actually injured or just required to have surgery to fix nagging injuries which they played with throughout the year? I know the likes of Anthony Milford wanted to play for Samoa at the world Cup but was blocked by the Broncos and booked in to surgery.
