The U.S. is supposedly a first-world democracy... Look at all that Universal Health Care and taxpayer funded University education they have literally on tap. Gee, what benefits!

I'm not confusing anything.... the benefits attached to living in most first-world democracies is that you have many rights... even if you are poor and a burden on wealthy conservatives....

Why do you guys consistently seem to want to invent arguments that I've never made in order to have something to slap me with?

Show me where in this thread I've listed gun ownership as a right

The government provides me with money? How do I drink money?

You said water is my right. They should give it to me for free. You can't make me pay for something that is my right. I don't have to pay someone so that I'm allowed to talk. I don't cut a cheque that allows me to be an atheist

The only rights we truly have are those we can give to ourselves. The ability to think, say, and act how we choose, and defend ourselves from others who would attempt to make us think, say, or act in a way that we don't want.

These rights exist outside of society. They have existed since the dawn of consciousness for some (the right to think how you choose), and long before that for others (the right to defend yourself).

Everything else that the government attempts to provide for us by taking the taxes we agree to pay them are benefits of society. They are not rights. We like to call them rights, but if its not guaranteed, if it relies on the labour of others, it is not a right.

we call them rights... but they're not rights..... we write them into law and call them rights... but they're not real rights.... we write them into our constitutions... but it's just words..... because you say so..... f**k you're one arrogant f**ked up merkin....

Yes it is just words. A much more apt definition of what you consider rights would be ideals.

Ideally, we want everyone to have access to education, healthcare, housing, a fair trial, the ability to vote, etc. Pretty much the entire point of society is to achieve these ideals as best we can as a collective.

None of us are inherently entitled to those things, though. We purchase them through taxes that are then used to offer money to people who are willing to help us achieve our particular set of ideals. These services are the benefits of the success of those ideals being achieved.

The fact that you and many like you have got to the point where you consider yourself utterly entitled to them is just proof that society has been able to provide these benefits so long and so consistently. If the system is damaged though - say through some sort of man-made or natural disaster - those benefits can and will disappear.

As will your right to life ala Mad Max.

Yes we are inherently entitled to those things.

Kids are entitled and have a right to a home.

    Guess what?

That means building or buying one.

Oh but according to you they don't.

It just goes to show how retarded Aussies sound trying to spout US conservative politics.

well that's all good then.... the US government can just go in and take all them guns off the citizens now because it's just ideals that let them bear arms.... it's not an entitlement at all..... just a bunch of uppity sponges like me who want everything for free...... go f**k yourself merkin... vermin like you are exactly why I am a leftie and proud of it.....

To me, this viewpoint everything that wrong with the loony right and the Abbott conservatives in a nutshell.

It is this that is used to start eroding away things like free education and healthcare so that only the wealthy have access to them.

I know millennial friends that have adopted this bullshit, bringing it up in group chats like the shit is somehow relevant here.

f**k off to the land of the free, just don't get sick and avoid being shot.

What thread am I in again? oh yeah even the US has had this for a while now.

Understanding that the benefits of society are a privilege and being grateful for them is everything that is wrong with society?

What an odd thing to say

Why do I need to buy something if I am inherently entitled to it? Shouldn’t I just be given it since it is my right?

What other rights am I entitled to only if I pay for them?

How odd that education and health care is seen as a privilege.

Thank God for socialism which took this away as a privilege for the few and made it a right for all.
