You know what, I have a real hard team leaving Ricky Stuart out of my team at halfback. A real hard time. Stuart was magic at his best and his combination with Daley was a joy to watch. Given Johns played a bit off the bench, a bit at hooker, Stuart in my opinion comes in to play at halfback for NSW along with obviously Sterling and Mortimer. Waz Ryan came out and labelled Stuart as the best player he had ever seen in 93' (I think it was 93, possibly 94).

I feel Sticky is often dismissed when looking at the great halves. It's a shame. From 89 to 94 there wasn't many, IF any, better players in the game.

People forget what a great rep player Stuart was. I think he got MOM 3 times for the blues in only 13 or so appearances. He also has the wood on Langer at Origin level.

I do agree. Stuart definately had Langer's number at Origin time. I loved watching him play apart from when he lined up against the Bears where he enjoyed toying with us. I am not sure how Stuart didn't go away the number one halfback on the 90 or 94 tour. I can forgive them for perhaps the 90 Tour, though 94 Stuart deserved the first Test partnering Laurie Daley.

Was it 91 when Langer was dropped after the Kiwis beat Australia first test and replaced by Stuart?

They had a great rivalry in the early 90's. It was something to behold. Stuarts boom kicking and cut out passes vs Langer's jink and jive running and grubber kicks.

Now we have people like Thurston who hybrid that with pace to boot.

I'd have to check. I know Stuart replaced Langer after the First Test loss on both Roo Tours. It does ring a bell though I can't be certain.

There was no better rivalry in the game at the time than between the two.

Maybe not - but there was another famous one for that period, just not as close.

Elias v Walters S.

Not to mention Lyons v Lewis 1990-91 which ended in both losing to Peter Jackson/ L Daley by 91 end.

Kurt Gidley[/B]. This one might raise a few eyebrows, but although his name will not be remembered like Daley's or Fittlers' or Johns', Gidley is a workhorse who could never be accused of not putting in. If NSW had a team full of players who have given as much effort as Kids has, the Blues would have won a series more recently than 2005. He gets the bench-spot down to his ability to be used as a utility, most likely he would come on later in the game in the backs or at hooker or lock.

LOL

Words can't describe how f**king stupid this selection is.

I know every thinks that the NSW hooking position is up for grabs btw Elias and Buderus but geez I think we're forgeting little Geoff Toovey in all of this.

His role in the 2000 clean sweep was huge and the way he stood in for Freddy to Captain the 97 wining side should not be forgotten.

Indeed I did, the best time for origin, Cleal was never a worker, did you not see the many breaks and tries he set up?

Impact player who gave Impact.

Coming from the person who declared Jarred Hayne a "nuffy" and hoped the NSW selectors would never be stupid enough to pick him, I don't take any offence to this.

Honestly, if you want to pick a specialist 1-17 then fine, but if one of those players goes down with an injury, you're stuffed. Kids is not an Origin legend, but he can play hooker, in the halves and at fullback, as well as other positions and do a reasonable job. He is the best all-rounder I could think of in that regard, hence my selection.

He could, but he was always mostly a hooker or half. I considered Wing, but Kids has more experience playing in the backs.

If you think that Gidley is the best option for any spot in 30 years of NSW Origin then you're having a laugh beyond comprehension. Typical Newcastle dropkick.

Hard to top that! Only thing I would accept changing in this side is Larsen in for any of the props, but other than that, brutal side.

If I was a real Newcastle dropkick I would have picked Buderus at hooker, and maybe Butterfield at prop
