Let's find the fastest players in NRL or world: 100m sprint competition in off season

People debate who is the fastest man in rugby league. There is only one way to prove it: have a 100m competition during the off season.

Let each club nominate their two fastest players and have a 32 man competition. 4 x 8 man heats with the top four in each heat qualifying for the semi finals. Top four in each semi final go to the final.

We could possibly make it into something bigger if we have the 14 Super League clubs, do the same thing and send their 32 fastest over, race each other into a final, and have a Super League vs NRL World champion race after the NRL final race.

That would make a day of exciting sprints --- 15 races --- that could attract a huge crowd.

Who would be the two fastest men from your club?

My guesses for some clubs:

Roosters: Tuivasa-Sheck and Pearce

Warriors: Johnson and either Fishiahi or Locke

Titans: Mead and either Gordon or Kelly

Dragons: Morris and Nightingale

Eels: Hayne and Radradra

Rabbitohs: Merritt and Inglis

No one would get near James Roberts. His GPS times recorded in his debut year at Souths have never been matched across the NRL.

Koroibete hands down.
Even running backwards and blindfolded he would finish and have time to watch the rest finish their remaining 50m

I'd make it a yearly thing and run it as part of the Grand Final pre-match entertainment. Sure it would mean the guys in the grand finalists teams wouldn't be running but they could still send players from the squad who weren't playing on the day, and if it was a yearly thing then their speedsters would likely get a chance in other years when they weren't in the GF.

I'm all for a novelty event but maybe not as a stand out day. Every year we have the debate about who should be the GF entertainment and toss a coin between the Australian Idol and the X-Factor winner or something. It's s**t. If they want entertainment between games on the big day then footy related stuff would be better.

The NBA all star w'end has novelty events like the 3-point shootout, dunk comp, skills contest. NRL could ride that idea for GF day with a sprint race (I'd rather find the fastest front rower lol). They could have a goal kicking comp styled on a game of h-o-r-s-e (a knock out game) perhaps.

Make the prize worth it - $50k the winner and $50k to their charity. That should gets some solid entrants.

The off season is important and I don't think we should mess with it too much. By the time the best players get back from test matches and get ready for the 9's, there isn't much room in between for other events.

Yep, well put. Why not do a serious race for the fastest player and also have a front rowers only only event for laughs?

I think football related competitions as entertainment at the grand final is a horrible idea. I don't want to sit there and watch Remi Casty win everything.
