Sure. Problem is Smith is arguably the best hooker of all time so it's not really easy to replicate that. That plus halfbacks of Cronks quality aren't easy to get. In general even good halves are hard to find.

I don't think anyone would deny that the 1, 6, 7 and 9 are the most important positions but they're also the hardest to find (actually fullback nowadays that's not the case but whatever). Not everyone can build there team around star players in those positions because there just isn't enough.

Smith is not arguably the best hooker of all time.

Today's hookers have nothing on Hookers from the past whose roles were much more difficult and required a much different skill set.

Smith was never a hooker, he's the best #9 as we now know them of all time. George Piggins is a candidate for best hooker, he couldn't even contemplate doing what Smith does but Smith could adapt to what he did

choking on the comment that George Piggins is a candidate for best hooker. I saw George play and loved him , he was all heart , however he has never been a candidate for best hooker of all time. He was not even the best hooker in his time at Souths. Elwyn Walters kept George in reserve grade for good reasons, and Elwyn was not the best hooker of all time. Elwyn and Mario Fenech were the best hookers i have seen at Souths.George comes in third.

It is difficult to name the best hooker from all time , with all the rule changes and the hooker game changing dramatically over the years. However Cameron Smith has the best overall skills, (captain/kicking/control) i have seen from someone called a hooker. I think if he was in the Souths team for last three years , we would have been in 3 Grand finals and chance to win all of them.

Be careful choking every time someone takes the piss, there were many great players who 'hooked' for the ball, I only mentioned George because I loved the way he intimidated.

Taking the piss only because hookers haven't been seen on a field for that many years a vast number of the people on here might just recognise the name Piggins because of his association with Souths.

As much as people like to think the game played today is just a faster version of that played when hookers were real I'm here to tell them Rugby Union is a closer facsimile

Wonder what Choc would do at Parra, mongrels are the best dogs but once the rough and tumble starts to catch up they'd rather be patted than chased . . . not sure the bloke would be convincing in the Eels locker room either
