SBW and Ramadan

I used to work witha Muslim girl who said there was an exemption when you are on your periods. She was constantly eating and using this excuse. Must have had month long periods in Ramadan

You think that's impressive?

The Canberra Raiders came within 30 points of the Melbourne Storm playing Jarrod Croker and 16 other intellectually disabled athletes. Amazing stuff. Really inspirational.

People are daft.

It's not as if SBW writes these stories and whatnot. Why not just accept and respect what he's doing?

It's a phenomenal effort from him, as it was when El Masiri did it.

It was mentioned in the media more than once and I can remember some commentators making note of El Masri wiping his face with a towel while all the other players had a drinks break after a try etc.

Iirc he would squirt water into his mouth but would spit it out just to get some moisture in his mouth.

In the article about it in todays telecrap they had a 'sonny declined to comment' line. he's not seeking publicity for this. the papers write these articles because they know that people love SBW and will read anything about him

What dumb ass religion decides its a good idea not to eat and drink during the day? Was that bit of the scripture written by a bloke with an evening cafe by chance?

From memory it's to give people a sense of what it's like to be poor and how they struggle to get by without food.

They'd have been better coming up with "eat what you want but to donate to the needy!" I've been to Pakistan, it's not working very well in helping the hungry.

It's uncanny isn't it...start a thread about how much of a cat Cam Smith is, and all the ones defending him have Storm logos or Melbourne in their name.

Start one about SBW, and some fella called roostersrule thinks it's a 'phenomenal effort'. (that is presuming he still plays league, and for the Roosters - I haven't read any papers today).

I, amongst many other people, don't respect anything he does.

Religion is silly and shouldn't ever be celebrated

Religion is awesome. It is the greatest con ever perpetuated and has been for millennia. Every civilisation that has ever existed has used some form of myth to control its populous by inventing a deity and convincing people if they don't agree really bad things will happen to them. As far as cons go it is incredible!

It's about teaching empathy, a far more powerful premise than being forced to donate money every year.

You mean to tell me that there are supporters out there who support their players? My god, what has the world come too?

It is a phenomenal effort, anyone who says otherwise has NFI.

On the contrary... There are fans who are blinded by their bind to a club. Phenomenal? Please. No ones forcing him to do it, not even his pretend deity.

If he brought his travelling circus to my club I wouldn't be happy he fails to prepare adequately because of what *insert made up figure head here* tells him to do

Well said.

Classy post. As usual mate.

Having a fair few Muslim friends, Ramadan seems to be tough enough in an office job. And for Williams, who didn't grow up as a teenager fasting, it would be even tougher. He hasn't been big noting himself, it has been his team mates singing his praises.

Thanks Drake

I work for a really multicultural company and many of my colleagues keep Ramadan and I know I would struggle keeping to rules they adhere to. I am not a huge eater by any means often skipping lunch accidentally when I get busy, but by 4pm I am usually famished and have had benefits such as a cup of coffee during daylight hours.

Physical exercise certainly doesn't make things any easier and my gym sessions are nothing compared to playing a game of Rugby League

Or there are fans who disagree with other fans. Defending a player hardly makes you blind to their defects.

So something can only be phenomenal if you're forced to do it? Maybe Rolf Harris is you're type of guy.

I'm not talking about his religion or anything. I'm saying playing 80 minutes in one of the hardest sports in the world with no water or food for extended periods before, during or after the game is phenomenal.

He and his "travelling circus" have done wonders for our club.

Old Rolfey boy, wonder if he was instructed to do it by the wobble board Buddha.

To me, that's like saying taking the stairs to the 33rd floor is phenomenal, only there's a perfectly functioning lift. But some fella up higher said be respectful, some people aren't fortunate enough to have elevators. Yeah it's a great effort...just seems silly advice.

Anyway, that's just my gripe with him - I disliked it immensely as an all black fan but you clearly like the guy and what he's done, so fair play.
