No more rookie coaches!! Why is Mary even being considered?? What have Doust and the board been doing since Price was sacked?

Bennett only came up as an option in the last 2-3 weeks????????

Why are we happy to appoint a rookie coach that will only deliver the same results?? Mary is not the best option right now. The cheapest? YES.

Doust will say process of elimination.
1 Too dear.
2 Have rejected us.
3 Not a yes man to Doust or board.
4 Has too much experience.
5 Not a member of the "Boys" club.
6 So Mary it is.

What a sad state this club has become

You've hit the nail on the head right there.

Mary comes at the right price and will appease the Illawarra side of the board.

All the fanfare of the past few wins is laughable we are still 12th on the ladder ,so we have progressed up one spot since PRICE got punted ,the way it is portrayed in the media is as if we are up the top of the table ,they raved about the 3 wins at the start of the season also and hailed Price as being a capable coach .How did that go?

There is a real danger of Mary's and the Dragon's ship sinking over the next month of footy, it's a tough month ahead.

3 years on and the main point of conversation on the forum remains who should be coach. The knights have lost their coach and are approaching the replacement process methodically and with due diligence. It seems the appointment of coach at the dragons is hijacked by "board" politics all the time and without the overriding consideration of what will achieve the best results for the footy team and give them the best chance of winning a premiership...not just performing "adequately"

I hope brownie is considered. Much more experience now, has a good tactical brain & an eye for talent. Left the club in good standing when bennett took over. I hope mary stays in some capacity, perhaps assistant?

Come on guys, Mary is only just 10 wins in 10 weeks away from making the Grand Final. Or so the board thinks.

Why do they have to make a decision now? Is someone else in the hunt for Mary as coach next season? I am sure they can wait till the end of the season to make a decision? Saints can possibly lose the next 7 games. Actually they are playing teh Chooks next weeks so they will probably announce Mary as coach then.

Now that Bennett has the Broncos gig, why wouldn't we consider Griffin as coach. Comes from a great system, highly respected by players and others and would likely bring some Broncos with him. Would love to see Maguire in the Red V.

Would gladly take Griffin, he has done quite well with a Bronco's team that isn't all that great this year.

I don't think Hook is the answer. He has had a fantastic crop of players at his disposal, a seven day turn around most weeks, state of the art training facilities, and the comfort of News Limited's bottomless pockets....yet they finished 13th last year, and are having another up and down year in 2014. Don't get me wrong, he isn't terrible, but the Dragons assignment is significantly tougher than the one he has struggled with in Brisbane.

Dugan believes McGregor has what it takes

RUGBY LEAGUE - DRAGONS

Josh Dugan believes his role in NSW's State of Origin series triumph is proof that interim coach Paul McGregor deserves the Dragons job long-term.
McGregor - a member of the NSW coaching staff - masterminded Dugan's move to the centres after he convinced Laurie Daley he could replace Josh Morris for Origin II.
It prompted the relaunch of one of the NRL's premier fullbacks in McGregor's first week as an NRL head coach after he replaced the sacked Steve Price.
Dugan rewarded McGregor by delivering impressive form for NSW and the Dragons, before Monday's loss to Manly, and is now pressing his claims for a maiden Test jumper at season's end.
The former Raiders star was emphatic when asked if McGregor was the man to lead the Dragons long-term.
"Definitely. I know myself and a lot of the other players will be backing him for the long run and I don't think that'll change," Dugan said.
"I have Mary to thank for helping me find some new form and getting back into the Origin side. It [the switch] was sort of in the making a while ago but Mary put the plan in full motion and it's really run-on from there.
"To be a part of NSW winning the series again it's something I'll never forget and coming back to the Dragons and playing good footy is something I'm really relishing.
"He's put a lot of confidence back into the boys. We're all really enjoying playing under his structure and his philosophies."
With the Origin series now complete, McGregor persisted with the move, leaving Dugan at centre in the Dragons 21-12 loss to Manly, and he said he's happy to remain in the No 4 jumper for the remainder of the season.
"At the moment it's just week by week but I'm definitely looking at finishing off the year in the centres," he said.
"In the end it's up to Mary and what he thinks is best for the team. Wherever he puts me I'll play."
It was a tough night for Dugan against the Sea Eagles as he was forced to make 22 tackles as he and Benji Marshall were targeted by Brett Stewart and Steve Matai.
He's expecting similar treatment against the Tigers this week on the back of a 46-18 thumping of the Bulldogs.
"I don't think we defended too badly I think there was just a few little mix-ups in communication which we'll get right during the the week.
"When you're making 20-odd tackles it fatigues you and takes you out of the game a bit so we've got to be ready for that again this weekend and really turn up for it," Dugan said.

Players, Board members and management staff should all desist from commenting on their preferred candidate for the head coach position. Our Club should go through a proper recruitment process outside of public comment. At the end of this process, the Club's CEO should make an announcement.

As far a the Kangaroo right centre position is concerned, J Morris would be a long way in front at the moment. A repeat of Monday night's performance against Manly would most certainly rule Dugan out of selection for right centre. This is not to say that it was all Dugan's fault; Benji and the fowards on the right can also take responsibility.

Mary's desire to be our long term coach was most certainly dealt a blow last Monday; not because we lost the game but because he failed to anticipate Manly's plan to attack the right side and because he failed to formulate a defensive plan to combat this.
