Pretty much this. The first thing you learn with depression is how to hide it. Because apart from a few at best, people mostly just don't understand, and at worst they're like some of the oxygen thieves in this thread. And because to an extent it makes it less real if you keep it to yourself. Took me a lot of years and a bad day to face mine.

yeah boyd was so depressed he was sending happy snaps from greece to his team mates, and williams/carey have both been well reported cases that sort treatment on numerous cases.

Not just when they were caught being wicked naughty boys.

Regardless of it being a footballer or any of us (including BVM who is the classic example of depression) it is a terrible thing to live with. I hope those who do live with it find the coping skills to live a happy life.

Some of the anti-depression people here need to understand depression is a real thing.

Some of the people arguing with them need to understand it is impossible to properly identify depression in someone who wants to use it as an excuse. All you need is a quick google search to tell you what to say and do to fake it properly. And if you think nobody has ever faked depression to get their way you are naive.

It is possible to see depression as a real and serious issue, while still having a bs detector out for people faking it.

It's not something to be mocked. It'd be truly awful, & it wasn't my intention to belittle it.

My only point was, people exploit it, so I don't think people should be lambasted for being skeptical.

It's breathtakingly ignorant though - the very thing Fifita and Boyd did ARE the sort of strife people find themselves in when they are depressed. There is a strong correlation between alcoholism for instance. With bipolar substance abuse is huge.

A lot of people only get the mental health intervention they need after coming into contact with the legal system for the first time.

It's not "amazing" as claimed by op anymore than its amazing when a patient goes and gets chemotherapy for a swelling on their neck.
