Have the ARL(C) done more harm or good the last 30 years?

Considering the consequences of their actions, intentional or not, have the ARL(C) done more harm or good to international league over the last 30 years?

NB: Letting pacific islanders play in the NRL does not count as "doing". Establishing the Warriors may count, but I don't know how much input they had in this. Maybe just another case of letting them play in the NRL.

How much development have they funded? Development tours? Promotion?

Having the ARL/NRL broadcast around the world is no doubt their biggest contribution, but it is almost unintentional I would argue.

The arl have quite a few problems which have all been discussed on here, but this comment is ridiculous. There are a hell of a lot of problems up your way as well due to the incompetence of the rfl.

* Lack of a proper RLIF (RLIF was in the hands of the ARL for years and is only now starting to be reformed after control was taken away from them)
* Players being poached for State of Origin/prioritization of Origin over internationals
* Lack of neutral referees
* Lack of respect shown to the international game in terms of organizing regular fixtures/player withdrawals

All problems caused directly by the ARL. I'm not a fan or defender of the RFL but the only thing they can really be blamed for is the illogical eligibility rules, for which they share the blame with Australia and NZ. The RFL and French federation were also involved in setting up and funding the RLEF, which has done more for the international game in the last year than the ARL has done in the last 100.

Clearly you overlook Brough and McIlorum playing for England. Don't need Australia to play tests either. The Sport as a whole is poorly run not any one organisation

No, it was equally bad. What relevance does England selecting Brough and McIlorum have to any of the points I made about the ARL, and why do you think it's ok for Australia to sit back and do nothing while leaving everyone else to promote the international game?

Proves England has the same disregard for the minnows up there as we do down here. It's a RL wide problem not just an ARLC. The fact they are looking to get more income is a great start

Do you know what happens if ARLC don't look after their own backyard? AFL, RU and Soccer will make inroads. ARU is practically dead can't take the foot off now.

On the back of being in QLD Cup. PNG locals beat a Tonga team full of heritage players. Fiji are joining NSW Cup in 2016 similar improvement will see both teams lift to European standard.

I have no doubt in the 10-20 year mark. PNG and Fiji will be near enough to NZ standard due to the teams in the 2nd tier competitions

Both players you mention were born and raised in Yorkshire. Hardly the same as the issues associated with Origin and international eligibility. Origin is great, but having a two state comp being the pinnacle of what should be a world game, isn't what should be encouraged.

Agree with the previous poster. There needs to be a well appointed RLIF, with representatives from all playing nations having a say on all matters rugby league.
