Of course there's an advantage to it... But is it cheating??

I don't think it is....

Cheating to me is one team having an UNFAIR advantage in the game.... And I highlight UNFAIR.

'Unfair' to me means an advantage one team has gained which isn't available to the team they are playing against.

In this instance, it's game day.... The whole world is watching... The Patriots weren't doing anything that the other teams couldn't do.

And it happens in all sports.... Nearly every professional football club in the world employs a video analyst who makes there own recordings of players and teams.

The only problem I had with the Patriots was the fact that they hid it... They should have been open about it.

If they had snuck in to other teams private facilities and filmed them that's a whole different matter...

Yep. I'm with you.

But apparently that just means we fell for the 'Goodell trick'.

I didn't realise they did? I thought they were quite popular, I know Marshall Faulk very quickly became my favourite player around that time.

Yep certainly were not the most hated side.

My favourite was Isaac Bruce, very good wide receiver, possibly one of the best route runner I have seen

I didn't watch the sport during the Rams era.

Why do so many people hate them?
I hated them with passion...

Not the Rams themselves.... Just the Mike Martz 'greatest fail on turf' team and the bandwagon fans that came out of the woodwork to support.

I didn't mind them too much when they won under Dick Vermeil... Just the hype after that....

now with spygate.
wasnt it that they (the league) changed the rules to outlaw it in the begining of that season.
they were caught cheating in the jets game. that year

but anything before that. was it actually illegal under the rules?

My most hated team for me is the 49ers, obviously being a division rival, hated them before Harbaugh, but he definitely makes it easier to dislike. Any time the Cardinals beat the 49ers will always be a great time. Having said that San Francisco is one of my favourite cities in America and I don't mind any of their other Pro teams. Helps that the 49ers are now the Santa Clara 49ers and way out of the city now.

Other hated teams for me are Steelers mainly because of the Superbowl, NY Giants and the arsey way they won their last 2 Superbowls, Rex Ryan's NY Jets, Peyton Manning lead teams, not sure why, maybe because he's really good, maybe because I think he's a wanker. I guess I don't like any Manning. I'm not high on NFC East teams because at some stage a couple of years ago they got shown all the time on TV out here.

Teams I don't mind or have a soft spot for are the Patriots (Read a few books about Belichick and his system and set up at the Patriots. Despite being a grump, he's a great coach), Packers and Bears because I have friends in those places that support them.

I like Chip Kelly a a coach as well.

They were tapping the other teams practise, getting a look at how they were scheming for the upcoming game, and could very for alter their own game plan to suit, no other team was doing this. How on f**king earth is that not UNFAIR?:lol:

They were taping there practice??

Maybe I misunderstood what they were doing.... I thought they were taping them at the stadium on game day...

Edit- just refreshed myself on it.... They didn't film any practices...

The Boston Globe made an allegation that they filmed the Rams Super Bowl run though... Which they had to retract and apologise for because they had no proof....

If you believe that then you must be looking forward to Santa climbing down your chimney in a couple of weeks...

This is just a perfect example. Some news organizations were just trying to make a big story, and people foolishly just believe anything.

What the patriots did wasn't that bad. The fact people are so angry towards them because of this is just ridiculous.

The walk through they do during the pre game is as much a practices anything, they arent doing it for fun, they are doing it for a reason, they are practising.
They are going through how they are planning to play. And yes, anyone could have watched that, but to tape it, to take it back to the video, break it down in a real serious way... that's an unfair advantage.

They cheated, simple as that. And had the commissioner not been so tight with the owner and coach, more would have been made of it. They still got fined big time, and stripped of picks.

But it really doesnt matter, they havent won since they got caught and history will always regard those wins with at least a small '*', so it's been and gone.

As it pertains to this thread, their cheating has no impact on why i hate them. I didnt even care for the sport when it happened. I hate the Pats because Boston sports fans are notorious wankers.

Who said they even filmed the walk throughs?? All they filmed was what happened during the game... All the recordings the NFL has were from during the game.

And Bellicheck made it clear that he never filmed any walk throughs... Even his own.

On top of that... They never used the recordings for the actual game that was being recorded.

So your point about recording them pre game and it being a huge advantage during the game is false.

Once again... Your peddling in fairy tales mate...

Sure they didn't. That's why they were calling out the plays at the line of scrimmage during the superbowl. When martz began drawing plays on the sideline towards the end of the game the Patriots d had no idea what to do. Except hold everybody that moved. Despite the cries of a few here the whole nfl community views the Patriots for what they are, a filthy, Cheating scum of a franchise.

Look we can go around and around on this, you've taken the Pats side and Goodell's side of things, and im taking the logically side of things.

I emplore you to listen to the latest B.S Report with Don Van Natta Jr.
Van Natta Jr is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist, Bill Simmons is a self confessed homer Pats fans.

They are essentially talking about Roger Goodell and touch briefly on spy gate... when Bill effing Simmons is saying things along the lines of "in hindsight, my pats really got off lightly there, we're lucky the owner is buds with Goodell" and "why did Goodell order all the spy gate videos to be destroyed? There isnt any logical reason for him to do that unless he was covering something up"

then you know shit wasnt handled well
This is Bill freaking Simmons. The biggest homer pats fan of all time and even he smells something fishy on this entire fiasco.

It sounds like a conspiracy theory along the lines of the Roswell alien stories...

As for Bill Simmons... That doesn't surprise me...

That's text book Bill Simmons..... He's Mr. "I love Lebron, but ..." Then rips in to him.... Or it's "I'm the biggest Michael Jordan fan but....."

He uses affection before criticising everyone...
