*if* he did wnat to come back it would be interesting how the nrl dealt with it. you'd think he'd want to go back to soufs but with their salary cap that wont be possible. Smith has the opportunity to get him under the marquee allowance, but everyone else would blow up deluxe

I would agree with you, it does seem a little premature.
But when you think about the sort of people in England that play/run Rugby and think about Sam, then maybe he realised his mistake 15 minutes after he landed in England.

The NRL or Super League would welcome him back with open arms.

Yeah but Gasnier wasn't very good in that stint and no-one thought he really would be, S.Burgess was probably the best forward in the world and still would be. He's worth a mil+.

and this is where the discretionary marquee allowance will go to hell. players will go away for a year or two then come back on fatter contracts which wont get counted under the cap. soufs could "let" inglis go to rugby for a year, then he could come back and get paid a shitload more by the nrl and not be under anyone's cap.

if hayne decides to come back this will present a problem too since he apparently has agreed to rejoin the eels if he ever returns

He's signed until the end of next year and has just made his debut (indicating how highly the coach rates him), so best of luck with everything. Seeing the way Sir Benny has turned Milford from a live wire fullback into a pot bellied 5/8th wont help them in recruitment
