Referee accountability

The challenge system won't change the fact that video ref's can't get the calls right. A perfect example of that was the Sims knock-on last night

If there was a challenge system in place someone might have had the balls to call it a knock on live, although probably not.

Honestly there is no system we can change to that will stop absolute howlers like the Sims knock on.... short of hiring video referees with fulling functioning brains and eyes I suppose.

When was the last time a referee actually penalised a high tackle without going to the video ref? No wonder players lay down now.

I sometimes think that refs should make their own calls (no video ref review) and only the captain can call for a video review ( limit of a 3 per game each side) of a decision.

I would give them 1 review per half, but otherwise I agree with you. It would make sure they only use it for something they're adamant is wrong.

So Gallen and Farah would use theirs up on the first decision of each game then

Referees are beginning to metamorphosise into a whole new breed, player manipulation will follow suit and League as we knew it will cease to exist . . . pity we can't have the new wave of talent without the spreading adjudication oil slick

The captains challenge is an absolutely dreadful idea. The under 20's have been using it for 3 years it it still has flaws.
The video ref must go.Holds up the game too much and we still get absolute howlers of decisions.Go back to the ingoal ref.If both the ingoal and main ref think it is a try, award it,if not,no try.Simple.
I have no problem with Maxwell's ruling against the Storm. He made a mistake. What I have an issue with is that they are now checking everything in some games and not in others. They are now going upstairs on a regular basis to see who touched the ball last, knowing full well that no try was scored.
No video ref for high tackles, the player knows he won't get a penalty,so he won't milk it.Simple.
Return our game back to the onfield referees.Let them call it as they see it.Yes,they will make mistakes but it will keep the natural flow of the game going.

Getting rid of the video ref would be a major backward step.

I think the challenge is the way to go. In goal refs, touchies & the refs must make an on-field decision.

Only can it be sent to the video ref with a challenge by the captain - 2 unsuccessful challenges per half.

This will stop unnecessary trips to the video ref & force the refs to make a decision....but importantly give the opportunity to correct an onfield shocker of a call.

It changes the whole comp when shit like that happens, Storm should be 3/3 instead there 2/3, those 2 points could effect the whole table at the end of the year.

Does 81 minutes ring a bell ? :x
My team has been copping it for years from these incompetent Clowns !!!
We missied the top 8 last year by two games
Stop your bitching and just bend over, referees go in dry!!!

The referee would still have it in their heads that they can make a poor decision and someone can over rule it.The problem with refs seems to be they can't make a decision without help,so we need to eliminate that.
Why would getting rid of the video ref be a backward step? What has it done to improve our game?

I think the majority of supporters would now have trouble enjoying the game without the VR, the more justification for a loss/win the more to talk about

I also blame the NRL marketing and advertisment group.
These soft c**k referees are told to go to the the video referee then the big screen with the KFC advertisment. Even a simple call, the referees are sending to the VR for more KFC plugs !
KFC are paying BIG dollars for the video screen ad.
The NRL wants to make sure that KFC gets the most out of their advertisment deal.
80 minute game could last for 90 minutes because of this money hungry KFC deal.

Overrule the howler of a decision & confirm doubtful ones.

Doubtful.I remember back before the video ref,the number of howlers and 'grey' area decisions has not changed markedly. All it has done is slowed the game down, take away from the excitement of a try being awarded on the spot, and sap the confidence of the refs.

That was a 50 50 call, Storm try was a definite try and to compound matters Instead of going up 12-6 they were down 24-6 in the matter of minutes, changed the whole game.

I think the NRL overall are doing a really poor job but you cannot seriously believe this? Surely not.
