Is There Anything Good About Melbourne?

Isn't it like comparing New York and say Chicago?

It depends on what you are looking for, I totally get that people want less congestion and cheaper prices. But I don't think lack of congestion and cheaper prices wins out otherwise Hobart > Melbourne.

I'm enjoying all the comments. It appears that the missus has been offered three jobs, Mornington, Springvale and Collins Street (CDB).

She is racking her brains about the best to take. The Mornington one has some absolutely delicious incentives.

Is there any good rural areas outside of Mornington? Being from South Coast NSW, I'm used to space and solitude, not shaking hands with your next door neighbours through each other's bedroom windows.

If you end up in Mornington whatever you do, stay away from their local craft beer. Tastes like someone's squeezed a filthy dish rag into a glass.

Currently living in Bundaberg, XXXX Gold would make that craft beer taste like nectar.

And Twizzle....Geelong is on the west side of Port Phillip Bay. Mornington is on the east side. I don't think the missus wants to drive 3+ hours to work.

I have no idea where Bellarine Peninsula is.

if you want a bit of extra land, look around langwarrin to moorooduc..

or if you can afford it, head out to red hill / main ridge / merricks and you'll have a great place..

I don't mind Springvale. Good place for a bowl of pho noodles. It's got a brand new train station and market centre and is slowly becoming gentrified, a far cry from the 80's and 90's.

True...best pho in town.

Just not my scene if I was going to live in Melbourne for the first time.

BF just announced that he's not just a moron, but a dumb, lazy and ignorant moron.

The architecture comment is utter BS. Docklands modern architecture is amazing, while there are still a huge number of old vintage buildings in the heart of the CBD.

It is piss easy to walk from one end of the Melbourne CBD to the other in 30 mins. I do it almost daily.

And finally he mentions one event with pretty pictures that Sydney has that Melbourne doesn't. What about the other 360 odd days of the year?

Sydney is fine, but to suggest its better than the Melbourne CBD is utter nonsense. Melbourne and Sydney are near identical, Melbourne is marginally better.

The only people who would make such claims that Sydney is miles better are idiots who hate everything Victorian because they don't like AFL.

AFL is shit. I never watch it or talk about it and have got on perfectly fine here for over 6 years
Why are you so sensitive about Sydney?

BF is just posting his opinion , just like you are posting yours?

You can't honestly believe that blowing up will convince anyone of anything about Melbourne other then they have 1 particular resident who has deep seeded issues.

Because he's a precious princess.

He even got shown on his own when he said Melbourne outranks Sydney in most livable cities when it's not even in the top 10 this year  (Sydney is #10).

You've gone full genius today BF...

Why would you take the time to comment on this thread if you've got nothing good to say about the place. Topic is if there's anything good about Melbourne, not if you think Sydney is better.

Sydney is marginally better IMO but its very recently this is the case and it's marginal at best. The lord mayor of Sydney has done a good job adding life to the cbd which was totally devoid of it 20 years ago.

Melbourne like all cities has cracking food, a good night life scene regardless of ones tastes and is a little more chill than most large cities IMO.

Making comparisons is a good way to familiarise yourself with the concept.
