The truly elite (the top 3 - 6 players) will be found permanently at the same clubs under your plan. Which is fine, as long as people understand that is what is going to happen.

I don't understand the football analogy. The fact that the best player in an unregulated market isn't always on the winning team doesn't have anything obviously to do with the salary cap. That just shows that there's more to winning than the quality of your best player.

It's not always about winning. Hayne returning to Parra would be bigger news than him leaving in the first place. Hayne is an industry which needs to be capitalised on. We would be stupid not to have him back.

Then why do the Roosters and Storm do so well?

Because they are successful on the field. We will be too and we will take over them as we are Parra. The whole package not just a team with a rich Greek or News Limited backing. Remember the Roosters when they were a transit lounge in the wilderness before Fittler came? .How long was it for a decade? We too will come out of the wilderness and when we do it will be massive.

Land on our feet? We've swapped Hayne for Foran plus enough change for at least another first grader. We've won out of this transaction.

Only if Foran performs at least as good at Parra as he has at Manly.

Let's see how he copes with the pressure of playing for Parra before we consider him a great player.

Hayne just posted that he finally has unpacked all his bags in the states.

Yeah, only because he was trying to find a pen to sign that Roosters contract Freddy brought over to him....

He has since signed it and is now packing all of that shit back in to his bag to get ready to come home!!

I have agreed with everything Avenger has said.
We'd be stupid not to try and get Hayne back.
Just in season ticket sales, it would be a massive bonus. Add to that merchandise and publicity, and it's a no brainer.
I will be so disillusioned with the game if he came back to the NRL and ended up at a club like the Roosters, who couldn't afford RTS, yet could afford Hayne.
It makes a mockery of having a salary cap at all. Yet, we all know how that plays out. We've been whinging about the Broncos since 1988. It's exactly why 3rd party agreements circumvent the salary cap and make it uneven. Try and compare the corporate support of the Roosters for eg, against that of the Raiders, or the Tigers.
In saying that, I don't think the NRL has an agenda to keep the Roosters successful. They just won't stand up to Politis.

Oh, I don't want him gone. I'm just talking about the consequences of a salary cap that allows a free-for-all on 1 player per team (particularly when there isn't a huge pool of superior overseas talent available to be imported).

They both had higher home crowd averages than the Eels this year. Roosters home crowd average in 2015 was 17, 440. Storm had an average 0f 14, 674.

Eels was 14, 596

That's actually pretty good for the Roosters. Not bad for the Storm.

If Hayne was on $1 million under the cap, would we have a better squad with him or getting both a wrighton / Walker type player ?

I don't think it's anything to do we us not being able to afford Hayne, more that a decision could have been made around what is best for the squad if he doesn't return or he just doesn't want to come back.

Anyhow I agree Hayne is the greatest eel I have seen ( sterlo / kenny / Hindy next) and it would hurt seeing him at another club.

For what it is worth, we would be way better having Hayne than Wighton and Walker. Hayne makes others better, and is a genuine game winner. Those guys are good first graders who need someone else to make the difference.
