The Rabbitohs at the Nines

I thought we were lucky to win the first game and outplayed in the second. Some reasonable effort but lacked an individual that could either take control of win it on their own. Some good effort in defence but also some poor one to one lapses. Adam was much better at organising the team last year and we also lack speed.

The team will improve but our backs need more speed and strength and our halves need to take the line on more as well as being smarter with field positioning.

Anyone else ( apart from r20 and rsag85) see the nines games we played?
Any input to player performances would be greatly appreciated
Seems the other two fellas have contrasting views

R20 listened to the game on the radio, his views on the players come with the radio commentators personal bias.
Earlier in the thread i made a few comments on who I thought performed and who didn't.
Cody went ok, he was quite in the first game, but a clever little kick behind the line pressured roosters which led to the first try. In the second game some clever work on the blindside from him led to a try. He was seemingly coming into the game and gaining confidence when a momentum shift happened and storm ran away with the game.

What are you talking about? Cody was good Auva'a try against the Roosters in the first game was off the back of Cody's chip over the top and it was his long pass that set up the try as well and Olive's try against the storm showed how good hands he has and how fast of a decision maker he is as well as he was the guy who played the ball then got it straight back to set up the try.

That chip was a fluke. That's as 2 other times he tried it and it failed. Flukes don't come off in first grade.

Cook went the other way and was the main reason that try was scored. It was t a long pass actually. It was a simple play.

Keary and Reynolds have a good understanding of one another. Cody won't be able to dislodge either.

What about Cody's missed tackles in games one on one that lead to tries to the other team. Cody didn't believe in his defence either. It was worse than Keary's.

What about Cody kicking the ball over the dead ball line and Bryson having to kick on the last as Cody did not take control.

Just in general play Cody didn't stand up enough when it mattered.

What about Cody tackling a Storm player and unnecessarily dragging him over the sideline when he knew he'd be penalised. The Sorm scored the next set.

I saw all the highlights and Cody did not impress me. He was average. I expected more but I'm not shocked as to what he showed.

Cody should have stood up but didn't. He disappointed me.

Poor one on one lapses came from Cody, Hunt and Auva'a.

The backs need to learn what giving their all is like Bryson does. The backs need to concentrate.

That's another thing, apparently Cody is great at taking on the line. Well he hasn't showed us anything in that regard so far.

Funny thing is as Cody wasn't taking control and calling for the ball on the last regularly, the ball went to Bryson and he had to kick it and he actually did a fair job.

Incorrect re radio bias. I don't listen to be influenced by their crap.

I am really good at picturing it from the call on radio. In fact I'm a master at it actually tbh.

Alien knows what I mean. He has watched games we play in Perth on Fox and I listen to radio and the comments I put on here are actually what has happened. Alien was shocked I could picture it just as he was watching.

I'm not fussed what you think though Diego.

What time are we on today?

edit: Just saw, 9am ffs what is up with this scheduling?

Wish the Nines were in Sydney for once. I know the whole deal is trying to get footy popular in NZ but it would pack out at either the SFS or more preferably, ANZ.

well the rabbitohs v parra game is at 9 am. a draw or win will get us into the finals.

i don't think cody was that bad, but people were expecting so much because some were talking him up too much.

if aj's shoulder is still hurting then don't risk it. it's only the nines. if his shoulder is fine then he will be a big boost to the team

hopefully they get onto the field about 20 mins before kickoff and practice those drop goals and work out who should take the conversions. they make a big difference and can be the difference between winning and losing..

Agreed.

Cody has definite potential, but we shouldn't base his form solely on the Nines. The real trials will be, well, the real trials i.e. Charity Shield and Pizzey Park.

AJ probably shouldn't play imo. I'd rather have him fit and firing for Round 1 than risk him for a competition we won last year that means squat.

I'm surprised Cody and Sutto haven't been our kickers, logic would dictate that as halves they would be able to kick well. Cook has done decently but seeing some of our backs kick and miss miserably is just stupid.

I think the summer weather has something to do with it also.
Although our summer has been constant rain this year lol

Rabbitohs A Hit At Auckland Nines Fan Day
Fri 5th February, 06:57PM

The South Sydney Rabbitohs proved to be fan favourites at today's (Friday's) Auckland Nines Fan Day held at Aotea Square in the heart of Auckland.

The Rabbitohs were next to the Warriors as the favourite Clubs on the day, as the South Sydney Nines squad posed for photos, signed autographs, conducted fan interviews and mixed with Members throughout the afternoon.

New recruit Damien Cook was one of those players involved today, and he spoke to Rabbitohs TV about the Fan Day and the upcoming first day of action in the Nines tournament.

To watch the interview, please press play on the video player.

But you are picturing what the radio announcers calls. So if the radio announcers calls 'that's a bad pass there from cody walker' then you are picturing a bad pass, even if it was actually a good play but the announcer got caught up in the heat of the game and got ot wrong.
For example i heard you say mcinnes kick in game 1 was terrible, what was he thinking, when in actual fact it was a great play that almost led to a try if it wasn't down to a bad bounce of the ball.

First half and Parra making us look very ordinary. Again we look like we have no idea, very predicable one out play. The only positive is Cook.
