I'm probably being biased in my view but the way I see it is we were super consistent the whole season we finished first with the most wins and least loses (obviously) of any other team. Cowboys on the other hand started the season 0-3 (one of which was a 24 point drubbing at the hands of the Roosters)
Saints won all of their finals games, Cowboys lost the first one and whilst the GF was definitely much more exciting to watch they only equalled the game with literally seconds left on the clock and had of Ben Hunt not dropped the ball the game could have gone either way, or just taken the Cowboys longer to win, our GF win however was wrapped up with 17 minutes left to go.
During the season I think a lot of people had accepted the fact we were destined to win it that year I mean really who was even close to being in our league? Panthers? Nup only scored tries off bombs and were eliminated in straight sets from the semis, Roosters? Probably the luckiest semi finals team I can ever recall in recent memory, just beat the Tigs, beat an injury depleted panthers and then played Gold Coast who saved their absolute worst performance of the season against them. I think the only real threat were the Tigers and they were not even that great that year at least IMO.
No-one had a sure pick last season (cough except for me) people were convinced it was the Roosters, then the Broncos and even the Storm were all 'certainties' of winning it that year.
We didn't lose our spot on top of the table from round 5! Cowboys never even got to taste it.
We were heavy favourites, they were the underdogs.
Our biggest loss of the season was by 18 points 18 FREAKIN' POINTS! That's incredible! They lost by 18+ points on 3 occasions.
So when you talk to your friend bring up some of these statistics and I would like to hear his response let's face it our team was better in 2010 and our team has been the best in the past, is the best at present and will always be the best in the future! Obvious favourtsim from my end but hell deal with it!
Go You Mighty Saints!
