We are signing coote as a five eight... Don't ask why

So we want two numbers 6s who are both runners with good ball skills but lack in being a general, organizing the troops around the field would be exactly as it is now with Benji.

Just noticed he's only 25! Seems like he's been around forever, thought he was close to 30.

Just need to find my chequebook that i haven't used since the early 90's in order to throw it at him :D

Debuted back in 2008 as very small 18yo, he handled it well but really it was too soon, he didn't finish a season with us from then on he would always get injured. We should of let him mature physically. He is a tough little bugger though probably my favourite memory of him is when we were giving it to the roosters one game at home and Willie Mason made a clean break with only little Cootey in front of him and Coote hit him hard enough to for an error in a one on one tackle.

He made a similar tackle last year. Can't remember who he belted but he rocketed in and it was such a well timed hit. Guy puts his body on the line, that's for sure.

His support play is one of the best I've seen. He is almost a clone of billy slater in that he is always running off your hip.

If you watch his highlights reel while at the Cowboys it's obvious the guy would make any team drastically better.

Interesting.

1. Dugan
6. Coote
7. Widdop

If thats the case, put Widdop to 7 this year and force the guy to run straight. Then focus on a creative, reliable 9 and we are good to go.

Interesting indeed BennyV. I get the feeling Dugan at centre won't be put to bed for good. Take it with a grain of salt again, however, the Keary rumour won't go away either.

1. Coote
3. Dugan
6. Widdop
7. Keary
9. Havili

17. McCrone

With Rein, Marshall, Farrell, Thompson and Creagh off contract, it certainly frees up a bit of cap space, however, I'd love to see the club retain Joely T.

If we recruit Coote to play FB, that's a lot of pressure on our cap to keep both Dugan and Coote on FB money. Coote will be worth upwards to 600k and Dugan on 700k. And if we need a half, that will cost us as well.

For Dugan and Coote to be in the same backline, Dugan will play FB with Coote in the halves.

My ideal scenario if we got Coote would be to offload Dugan, Marshall and Rein and their salaries and throw the kitchen sink at the best half/hooker combo we can.

I think keeping JT should be a given, but given his proneness to injury we can'tafford to keep paying him big money. Up to him I guess, I rate Matthews but he doesnt have the punch or leadership of Thommo, might look to see Host coming through.

Dugan to centre still concerns me, needs to lift his speed and involvement when playing centre. Based on the first 2 games, he aint worth $700k as a centre...

I thought we had two numbers already, why doesn't Widdop play 7 now and let Benji do his magic.

I kinda think this may be a decent option...but if we release Dugan, I can DEFINITELY see that biting us in the ass in a big match...

Id certainly be ok to release Dugan if someone was interested.. I knew hes a legend of sorts but he hasnt offered value for money since the first half season he was with us.

Dugan on 300k would be a different story.. but assuming he wont go for that.. ive no issues with Aitken at first choice (possibly Milne if he was injured), assuming we can utilise that extra money on say a halfback..

We do need some depth though, if Coote for example got injured in pre-season we cant fall in a heap.

Don't see Coote as top shelf.

When you play in a team with Thurston, Morgan, and Glanville the level of creativity on the field in itself means the opposition are guessing constantly.

Would rather a specialist half.

By all means get rid of Farrell, Rein, Marshall and Duges.

But before we do we need to sign a top half and hooker.

Next years team......strong I think

1. Dugan 8. JDB
2. Milne 9. Havili/Rein
3. Aitkin 10. Thompson
4. Lafai 11. Friz
5. Nighty 12. Packer
6. Coote 13. Ah Mau
7. Widdop

14: Cooper
15. Masoe
16. Rein/Havili
17. Matthews

Cowboys fan here.

I thought Coote was the best out of JT, Morgan and Granville in 2015. If anything, his involvement improved their games. He will greatly improve any team he joins, he's a champion player with all the skills and a great attitude.

Sad to see him go but we have Ponga coming through.
