Don't hold your breath. A few years ago in Sydney Shield one club's points total went up 4 for one win and another club received zero for a win. That was never corrected.

That's dreadful stuff. Poor management.

It's beyond the point of laughter now with Kingsgrove. How it benefits the RMC or them as a playing squad being belted weekly is beyond me. Put them in SS and maybe they'll have a chance. Replace them with The Entrance, Wollongong or Sutherland, just someone competitive.

It benefits all the teams who are lucky enough to play them twice this season. It also benefits all the teams who only play Mounties/Wenty once as well, instead of twice due to uneven teams. If you play Mounties/Wenty once and Kingsgrove twice and another club have the opposite draw then you basically have a 4/6 point headstart on them as well as an unassailable for and against lead!

Heka Nanai named in the back row in Shield for Auburn. Guess he got home-sick after apparently not showing up for Blacktown.

Jake Walsh still in Sydney Shield for Mounties... makes you wonder how you go from holding the Ron Massey Cup up as Captain in one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory, to marching their Shield side around the park. Head scratcher that one.

A few other interesting listings this week - Dean Parata and Adrian Davis were thought to be with Asquith this season but Parata is listed with Blacktown and Davis with St Marys. Also, Guildford now have two experienced forwards as Shane Shackleton returns for another season with the Owls joining with Matt Ryan in the pack.

Whilst I'm a some-what supporter of the Hills (always a soft spot for Wests) and I'm not in the inner sanctum of this club, I reckon has shit has gone down between the end of the last season and the commencement of this season.

Reason: Hills had a solid base of around 25 players in its grand final squad from last years S/S team throughout 2015. They seemingly had a tight bond and looking from the sideline played for each other, I reckon about 15-16 of that 25 were capable of playing at RMC level (Johnson, Overton, Boustani etc) but looking at the two teams announced there are only 4 names I recognize from last year.

Either a poor retention policy or someone (coach, manager or player) has come on board which has seen this solid band of football mates to disperse.

Defending premiers Mounties re-established themselves as Ron Massey Cup heavyweights when they came from behind to topple the Western Suburbs Magpies 30-18 in the Match Of The Round at Carrawood Park, Carramar last Saturday.
After conceding the first try, the Magpies – again led by star half Brendan Waters – then dominated the last 15 minutes of the first stanza. Fullback Shannon Gallant scored on the stroke of half-time to give Wests an 18-10 lead at the break.
Mounties, however, clicked into gear in the second half. Taking advantage of better ball control and poor Magpies discipline, Mounties scored four unanswered tries – including a double to winger Alofi Matele – to clinch the victory. Mounties secured their win when Blake Ritchie scored in the closing stages against a 12-man Wests, while Gallant was in the sin bin for a professional foul.
Wentworthville moved to sole leadership of the Ron Massey Cup with a tight 24-22 win over a gallant Blacktown Workers outfit at Laybutt Field, Blacktown last Saturday.
After conceding the first two tries to trail eight-nil, the Workers – with fullback Henry Raiwalui starring against his old club – came back to lead 12-8 with two converted tries in reply, before the first of two tries to winger Roydon Gillett gave the Magpies at 14-12 lead at the break.
The lead changed hands four times in an exciting second half. Gillett got his second before back-rower Danny Howard scored inside the last five minutes to give the visitors a 24-22 lead. The Magpies then held on against a last-ditch Workers attack to maintain their unbeaten start to the year.
Newcomers St Marys moved to second spot on the Ron Massey Cup ladder on percentages, with an impressive 32-22 win over Guildford Owls at St Marys Leagues Stadium last Saturday evening.
With class centre Geoff Daniela again prominent with a try and former Penrith Panther Tom Eisenhuth posting a double, the Saints made it successive wins over their last two starts by scoring six tries – sending the Paul Fletcher-coached Owls out of the top eight as a result.
Auburn Warriors made it back-to-back wins with an entertaining 32-28 win over Hills District Bulls at Lidcombe, where both sides scored six tries each.
Addison Demetriou kicked four goals from six attempts, which would be the difference as the Warriors maintained their position inside the early season top eight.
Concord-Burwood stunned Windsor 32-22 in the all-Wolves battle at Windsor last Saturday.
Winger Sam Latu scored two tries for Concord-Burwood, cancelling out centre Jack Nelson’s double for Windsor as the visitors’ six-tries-to-four win sent the 2015 Preliminary Finalists crashing to second last on the Ron Massey Cup ladder.
On Sunday evening, to complete the Round, Cabramatta withstood a second-half comeback from the Asquith Magpies to prevail 30-20 in rainy conditions at New Era Stadium.
The Two Blues led 10 points to four at half-time and looked to be ‘home’ at 24-4 when half Jake Jackson scored his second try 10 minutes into the second half.
Asquith scored three tries in nine minutes to bring the score back to 24-20 before Cabramatta centre Isaac Montgomery completed a sweeping counter attack in the final minute to clinch the two competition points for the hosts with his second try.
Kingsgrove Colts got their first points for the year with their first bye.
‘Wenty’ are the only unbeaten side on six points for three wins, with St Marys and Mounties leading the next group of six teams on four points. Hills District Bulls round out the top eight on percentages as all other teams have two points to their credit.
Asquith and Kingsgrove kick off the Easter Round at Norford Park, Sefton this Thursday Night at 7:00pm, with all other games set down for Easter Saturday.

Tony Dosen's SS Round 3 wrap

Belrose Eagles moved to surprise sole leadership of the Sydney Shield with a stunning 40-18 come-from-behind win over Windsor Wolves at Windsor last Saturday.
In a round of football where an astonishing 89 tries – including no less than five individual hat-tricks – were scored across the weekend, it was the performance of James Mortimer’s men that was the most remarkable.
After conceding two converted tries to be down 12-nil after just four minutes, Belrose struck back with three tries of their own before a third converted try to the Wolves gave the hosts an 18-12 lead at half time.
Belrose fullback Christian Bate’s second try with 20 minutes left to lock scores up at 18-all was the first of five unanswered tries in the last 20 minutes to blow the Wolves away.
Another blistering comeback saw Mounties come from behind at halftime to overwhelm Western Suburbs Magpies 46-38 at Carrawood Park, Carramar last Saturday.
In a match where 15 tries were scored and three players posted hat-tricks, Wests came back from 10-nil down early on the back of a first-half treble to Magpies winger Jai Doolan to lead by an incredible 30-16 at half-time.
Mounties then exploded to start the second half on the back of five tries in 15 minutes – highlighted by fullback Jake Horton’s three tries – to lead 46-30 midway through the second half.
Magpies backrower Trent Pye got the third hat-trick for the match in the closing stages to narrow the gap – but it was too little, too late.
Auburn Warriors managed to climb off the bottom of the ladder when they upset Hills District Bulls 40-32 at Lidcombe Oval last Saturday.
Fullback Jack Gibbons and centre Tom Harvey got doubles as the young Warriors scored eight tries to give former Bulldogs NRL player Brad Morrin his first win as a senior coach.
Two tries each to winger and second rower Penita Tuavao were not enough to save the Bulls from their first loss for the season.
St Marys moved back into the top eight with a 44-22 win over previously-unbeaten Guildford Owls in another high-scoring affair at St Marys last Saturday.
Five-eighth Blake Milgate starred for the Saints with a hat-trick out of Saints’ nine majors. Two tries to second rower Tui Oloapu was not enough to save Guildford from maiden defeat of 2016.
Defending premiers Wentworthville scored a comfortable 42-22 win over Blacktown Workers at Laybutt Field, Blacktown last Saturday.
‘Wenty’ winger Timoci Vatubuli completed the fifth hat-trick for the round, while fullback David Sisifa scored two tries for the Magpies. Winger Lomano Lufe scored twice for the Workers.
In Sunday’s main game at Waminda Oval, East Campbelltown moved to second spot on the ladder behind Belrose with a commanding 34-16 win over the previously-unbeaten Peninsula Seagulls.
Just like Saturday’s matches, the Seagulls – with new recruit Arthur Little pulling the strings – dominated early to lead 16-nil after 20 minutes.
Once Little went off with an ankle injury, the tide turned. The Eagles got back to only 16-10 down at half time, and then put the Seagulls in their place in the second half with four unanswered tries.
In the last game of the round on Sunday, Cabramatta broke the longest drought in their proud history with a 54-nil annihilation of the hapless Asquith Magpies at New Era Stadium.
Having not won a game in Sydney Shield since Round 11 in May 2015, the Two Blues scored eleven tries and never looked in danger after leading 30-nil at half-time against the outclassed Magpies.
Terrence Dodd, Jake Webb, Blake Castle and prop Zac Wedesweiler all scored doubles in the romp.
Belrose lead the table on six points after three rounds, with East Campbelltown and Guildford leading the next seven teams on four points. Windsor, Blacktown Workers and Asquith remain the only winless teams at the bottom of the ladder.
The Easter Round starts with two games on Thursday Night. Windsor host East Campbelltown at Windsor at 7pm, while Peninsula Seagulls play Asquith at Forestville Oval at 7:30pm. The other five games of the Easter round will be played on Easter Saturday.

I think Asquith are going to struggle this year. They lost too many players and when injuries start to hit they have nothing in the Shield team. Scoring less than 50 is not the end of the world but conceding 20 is very poor.

If their depth is tested it could be a very difficult year. They were still very close to 100 on the PPIS and have quality In the halves.

That'll give Kingsgrove plenty of confidence. Looks like it's going to be a tough year for Asquith though. I didn't think their losses would have such an impact.

They still have the spine of their team in Jack Hawkins at fullback, Brad Wall and Aaron Groom in the halves, plus Ben Fisher and Mark Daoud playing hooker. They lost Daniel Vasek to Manly NSW Cup, who started at 9 most of the season but came off the bench towards the end.

They still have their strike centres Jeco Makatoa and Adam Kalcina. They've added Stedman Lefau from Warriors NSW Cup.

Their losses were wingers Greg Davis and Mick Pearsall, Joel Tubbs (who's form in the front row was down on his 2014 season), Will Lafolafo who had a modest impact, and Dylan McKeown - a backrower. Tom Young also went back to Hills - he was very good for Asquith at back row but he had plenty of injury troubles and didn't play a whole lot of games throughout the year - mostly towards the end.

There's definitely a loss of quality there, enough to push them out of the top 4 where they've finished quite comfortably for the past 2 seasons - but I never would have thought Kingsgrove would come within a mile of them.

That is a big hole. I don't think the 2016 side has the go forward up front and Pearsall scored 30 tries.

Jack Hawkins is on the inured list at the moment to add to the woes. When faced with a certain 2 points some teams go for the kill and some may be guilty of going through the motions knowing that you only have to switch on for 20 minutes.

There definitely is still some quality there but they have to work a lot harder than the 2015 side to achieve the same results.

Yeah forgot to mention Brendan Hurd, didn't realise Francis had pulled the pin too!? Last I was tod he was playing, somehow I've managed to miss his absence on the team sheets. Nicholls, Inghram and Piper I also didn't mention but I didn't fancy them to be big losses or hard to replace, although Lochlan Piper has been playing well for Blacktown, apparently he's gotten himself real fit. Matt Hurd was another I didn't mention cause he pulled the pin half way through the season.

When you take the whole list though its incredible. Whilst not all of those players are first 17 players, the aforementioned issue of having depth makes it seem a lot worse.

I think in the coming few years Aaron Groom might call time, as he's just had two young boys, and without the Hurd brothers Hawkins might make a move to chase some money with them too. Fisher was going to retire until the 11th hour too, so I think Simon Clarke has a tough couple of years ahead of him. It might be a few seasons before they get another shot at a Grand Final.

St Marys led 12-6 after 25 minutes and then Adrian Davis was sent off for a head high tackle. Blacktown led very late in the game and had an big overlap when former Workers' centre Tala Mapesone intercepted and scored to give Wests Victory. Auburn and CBW could hardly complete a set for the first 50 minutes but in the last30 minutes Auburn managed to put a few passes together and scored 5 converted tries.
