Jobs for the boys I am afraid.
Hornby and Young great club men but in reality adequate footballers and ordinary coaches.
Adequate footballers? How many first grade games did you play? Just goes to show how little you actually know

Agreed.. Best option atm is Cleary - very talented .. Mcgregor is at fault not the players.. We have a very good roster just badly coached..

Toovey yes, but why any one would want Cleary who took panthers to bottom 3 or 4, and sheens took tigers to the bottom few as well.... Pleaseee! At least it could be worse, at least we don't have Graham Arnold!
My concerns are;
1. If they get rid of the coach they will shuffle deck chairs again and employ within. Hornby & Young or Demetriou. They have employed ex Dragons player in Mat Head for Under 20's with supposedly great talent and they have won one game this year..just
2. If they keep this coach and roster we may not attract an high quality players
3. If they keep this defensive orientated coach players look unhappy in attack and frustrated with current structures.
4. Maybe funds are and issue and do we have enough corporate sponsorship
I read recently that Phil Goulds tenure as Penrith CEO or whatever his title is, us coming to an end.
Why not hire him for the remainder of the season as director of coaching or something like that where the coaching staff have to report to him.
I think that would change things for the positive IMO.
But will he donate his time?
Cleary also took the Panthers to a Prelim final. Any coach would struggle with all of the injuries he has had at the Panthers.
Look at his record with the Warriors. 6 years including a grand final appearance, a prelim final appearance and twice more in the finals. He missed the 8 in his first year, and 2009, which was the year Sonny Fai died. Few, if any, coaches would get their team up after something like that happened (look at how Ben Alexander's death affected Penrith).
The Warriors haven't made the 8 since he left.
I really don't think coaching is holding Joel back...he has the same ball others in his position get. I think we need to face that his game does not match his energy. People forget, he arrived to us after being benched at the raiders. Solid player but thats where it ends.Agree re Benji & Creagh. However, Rein has been good & offers a spark with his dummy half running, Thompson is suffering along with a bunch of others from not being well coached. Can you imagine him at the Bulldogs, Cowboys or Broncos? - he'd be an Origin player.
Donate ...... maybe
Retainer ......possibly
salary..... more than a possibility
He has a soft spot for the foundation clubs and with the Dragons woes he might be tempted as a project.
He certaily wouldn't do any worse than what we have.

Panthers missed finals three of the four years with Cleary. Gould has pretty much created nothing at Penrith, his 5 year plan was in ruins, he then changed it to a 10 year plan. Panthers recent record is as bad as Dragons. Don't want Gould anywhere near us thankyou!
Toovey..... Or wait till a decent coach becomes available.....
The results haven't been seen on the football field yet, but look at what's happened off the field. They were deep in debt and struggling to hold onto their best juniors. The Panthers now are one of the richest clubs and have facilities that most other clubs envy.
Gould's plan has been around continual success and I can see the Panthers heading in that direction. They'd be second to Brisbane with the talent they have in their juniors and with the pathways that he and others at the Panthers have setup it gives them the best chance for success. You're never going to win a comp, or make the finals every year as the structure of the NRL with salary caps, etc won't allow that to occur, but having a strong structure from the juniors up gives some clubs the best opportunity to continually be fighting it out for GFs and finals.
As we also have a large nursery of juniors I for one would love someone like Gould to come in and make some strong changes. Gould won't be coming but hopefully the club is looking at what Penrith have done and are stealing some of their good ideas around junior pathways and development.
