BOOM South Sydney forward Chris Grevsmuhl has played his last game for the club and is set to join Penrith immediately after a fallout with coach Michael Maguire.
In the latest rift to rock the troubled 2014 NRL premiers, on Tuesday the talented 23-year-old was axed from the Rabbitohs team to take on Parramatta in Friday’s crucial showdown.
As Souths look to end a four-match losing streak, The Daily Telegraph learned that Grevsmuhl was not at training on Monday or Tuesday and instead decided to train alone.

It is understood Grevsmuhl feels he can no longer play under Maguire and wants to link with the Panthers in time to play in round 11 against Gold Coast.
Already signed to join Penrith next season, it is believed Grevsmuhl had a run-in with Maguire following the Rabbitohs’ most recent loss to the Wests Tigers.
The Daily Telegraph was told that Maguire was critical of Grevsmuhl’s performance in the shock 30-22 loss.

Grevsmuhl feels some of the criticism that has been directed towards him is unfair because he is not the only Souths player struggling to perform to their ability under Maguire.
Grevsmuhl also feels he is being limited in what he can and can’t do on the field under Souths’ structure and style of play.

The Daily Telegraph understands Grevsmuhl’s management has spoken with South Sydney boss Shane Richardson about the situation and the two parties were trying to work out a resolution.

Richardson did not return The Daily Telegraph’s call on Tuesday night. Grevsmuhl’s manager Col Davis was reluctant to comment.

“I am not in a position to tell you anything at the moment,” Davis said when contacted.
This latest drama at the Rabbitohs comes in the wake of Greg Inglis’s shock switch to five-eighth this week. That heaped further speculation on the futures of under-fire halves Luke Keary and Cody Walker.
Keary is also off contract at the Rabbitohs and is looking for a new home in 2017 after his now infamous pre-season bust-up with owner Russell Crowe.

While Souths have done their best to play down that ongoing drama, Keary was named on the bench with Inglis to wear the No.6 jersey and Alex Johnston to play fullback against the Eels.

The talk of a rift between some of the playing group at Souths and Maguire have been going on for some time.
While the club has constantly denied it there is an issue, obviously it is still bubbling along behind the scenes.
A former Australian Schoolboy and Junior Kangaroo as well as a member of Queensland’s Emerging Origin group, Grevsmuhl is so highly thought after that Penrith supremo Phil Gould has long been one of his greatest admirers.
Grevsmuhl revealed after he signed to join Penrith that Gould had been chasing him since he was an unknown teenager on the rise at North Queensland.

“I’ve spoken to Gus for the past five or six years,” Grevsmuhl told Fox Sports this year.
“He’s been quite unlucky before that I’ve chosen to stay where I am or go elsewhere but we’ll finally be linking up together.
“When I first looked at moving down south Madge (Maguire) got the jump there but Gus came up and had a chat.
“But better late than never and I’m very happy to be heading out there next year.
“I know that he’s been wanting me for a while and now we get to link up and there’ll be a bit of insight from both of us for each other.”

Any change of posting the story? Stuck behind a pay wall

I don't know if you have a group called Rugby league fanatics but they have a link on FB which seems to work, whereas the link here is pay walled.

Thing that sticks out is that he feels that he was singled out for criticism when others haven't been performing. That would tie into the rumours the playing group is fractured. He also believes he is limited to what he can and can't do on the field as it doesn't fit in with the souths structures and styles, that would tie in with the talk that players are losing faith/respect in Maguire's coaching. Very interesting article

See you Grevsmuhl. I am disgusted in his attitude. It is abhorrent.

Madge would have been having one on ones with them all not just Grevs.

They have to take criticism and toughen up.

Grevs can't catch a ball. Any work place there is discipline.

What a disgusting attitude from Grevs.

He didn't turn up to training the bloody sook. Wake up guys. These guys can't handle it. What massive sooks.

As for Keary he ain't worth 850k. No doubt Keary is sooking. I say show him the exit door the sook. He can't kick a ball Keary.

Anyone who doesn't want do our Jersey justice with their all can piss off.

Let's get real guys. I want you to fire up to Souths Pride. Thrown them out the window. Our Jersey means so much and they ain't even honoured to wear it.

Show Tyrrell the exit door too.

Let's get real guys.

Shadow is correct, we need a clean out and players with the will and heart to give their all. Put all the young ones in if they'll do their best.

I don't mind losing as long as their is effort and doing the best for our Jersey. That's a start.

Goodbye Grevsmuhl. Toughen up. Grevs has shown his true colours.

We all know Keary's true colours too. It'll all erupt too.

I'm on Madge's side. Onya Madge.

To be honest, I don't think Maguire and Grevsmuhl have ever really seen eye to eye; their fractured relationship extends well beyond these last few weeks. Last season, I can remember Maguire leaving out Grevsmuhl on numerous occasions when there were far worse players than him on the field and against teams where his hard running style would be required too!

To be fair to Madge, I think he was right to have a go at Grevsmuhl for the Tigers debacle because his performance really was bad. As I've said before, there were times when he was walking up in defence instead of moving up quickly and simply started at grubbing kicks in the in goal instead of moving to dive on the ball and clean it up. In saying that, I don't think he was the only one who didn't play well but out of all the players on the field I thought he was the one who looked the most apathetic.

I personally don't buy into this whole nonsense of not liking Madge's playing style because all modern football is so structured and disciplined; it is pretty much going to be the same regardless of where he goes. I believe that what saw his form decline was the fact that he signed with Penrith 12 months in advance. I'm completely against players signing to play for another club while they have a year remaining on their contract - there is just too much at stake and players tend to get complacent once their future's are secured. We've seen it happen before to us - it was no coincidence that Issac Luke's game went to shite the moment he announced he was leaving at the end of 2015 to join the Warriors.

Putting this recent saga aside, I do wish Grevsmuhl the best and feel that he is a quality player. Moreover, I do believe that Penrith's ad-lib style would probably suit him the best given that he seems to be able to want to express himself freely on the field.

I'm not saying Grevsmuhl didn't deserve to be criticized, but this style of criticizing certain players publicly and humiliating them in front of the team while other players seemed to be spared seems to create resentment, not only for the coaches and officials but towards the players who are seemingly getting preferential treatment. I know guys like r20 will screams and shout that they are getting paid amd should just grow up, but i bet if he was at work and orders weren't getting out on time and customers were complaining and his manager upped him in front of everyone for not getting the fries out on time, but didn't get up jono making big macs slowly or tina for taking to long handing out orders he'd be pissed. He'd have resentment to the others and resentment towards the boss, especially as his stuck next to the deep fryer all shift while jono and tina can move about a bit.

Well hang on a minute. Lets not jump to conclusions. How do we know that Madge hasn't been giving other players a spray and that he has been doing it in front of everyone? Moreover, I don't agree with your use of the term 'humiliate.' The term humiliate contains connotations of personal insults and I'd be very surprised if Madge said anything of that nature. I'd say that Madge has probably criticised certain aspects of his game, which is part of the coaches mandate in order to get the best out of the team.

What I do think is valid to suggest is that Madge and Grevsmuhl have never really gotten on. Whether you want to accept it or not, coaches get on with some players better than other for any number of reasons. Wayne Bennett has openly admitted it after the Alex McKinnon tragedy and I think it does hold some truth. I hate making assumptions but I'd say that for the duration of his time at Souths, Grevsmuhl had a working relationship with Madge despite not really liking the guy. Over time, I'd say the relationship eroded and the criticism received at the end of the tigers game was the last straw and had become a bit too much for Grevsmuhl to take. For those reasons I think Grevsmuhl has decided to walk. I'm not necessarily blaming either party; you can't get on with everybody in life and I think there is obviously a gulf in regards to professional ethics and expectations between both parties. Subsequently, I think Grevsmuhl leaving the club is probably the best option.

Garbage story. Fact is that Chris has been average since signing with the Panthers and Gus has been throwing all sorts of swap deals our way in the background. It's been a concerted effort to get Chris over to the Panthers early all year.

His effort against the Tigers was the last straw. We signed a young back rower from the Broncos and gave Chris permission to go.

Will be interesting to see who comes back the other way. Whether it be Peachy or one of the Jennings brothers.

No player is bigger than the club especially one that signs 2 years in advance and thats not putting in and destabalising the playing group which is what happens when you commit so far ahead the nrl should stop this he should of been bargained away when he signed
