As far as Rugby League non stories go, this is up there with the best of them

Parents of someone a player knew as a child ask him to visit their son in prison as he was depressed and threatening suicide. The parents thought the visit by Andrew would help their son.

Their son is a f**kwit and is in prison for something horrible, which led to consequences which have ruined a family twice (and possibly an entire City)

The NRL player keeps it quite and does as the family have requested
He keeps this quiet, probably because of the fact the person he visited is a dick and he knew it would be unpopular

The NRL player writes letters on his arm (intended to be a private message to the dickhead in prison) which nobody in the stands or watching on TV either noticed or knew what they meant. This was stupid but not illegal and as no one knew what they meant and was therefore harmless.

Media asks around - works out what they mean. Looks at half the story and then screams blue murder - now everyone knows what the letters mean and the real harm is done.

The Police are asked to get involved and say "what the f**k for? Stop wasting our time you dickheads"
The NRL integrity commission threatens the player with deregistration without talking to him or understanding the story - then go completely silent and look like f**king idiots

Why hasn't everyone just apologised, moved on and asked the media to stop making Mountains out of mole hills? The only harm caused by anyone has been caused by them.

Well yes, mostly correct but it was the police that were making inquiries which he has since been cleared of any wrong doing, that led to the Media becoming aware of it..

"They have thrown him under a bus, put it in reverse and then gone over him again," the statement said. "Leading into the grand final, Andrew was not in a good head space. He was told his contract could be ripped up, was panicking and went into a bit of depression. It didn't show [on the field] because he played so well but he was emotionally wrecked up until the grand final.

"It is about his welfare … all he wants is to get closure. We have had to consider other things but only in case he loses his registration. If that doesn't happen, he isn't going anywhere. He likes the coach, the club and his teammates."

A rugby league official suggested Fifita take a rugby union sabbatical while his career remained in limbo. However, the former Tiger would only consider the 15-man code if he was unable to play in the NRL.

Fifita's management has been disappointed by comments made by ARLC chairman John Grant calling for the front rower to "start behaving like an adult".

"The officials wouldn't even make time to see him after we had attempted to meet, but then he is told to grow up," the statement said. "We want the issue resolved because it has caused Andrew serious mental health issues and we need to know where he stands."

The statement also clarified the reasons behind Fifita's decision to visit Loveridge while he was in jail.

"[Loveridge's] parents rang Andrew because Andrew knew him, their son was in jail, was depressed and thinking about committing suicide himself," the statement said. "Andrew went and visited him with another person on the request of his family. Now he has a wife and family at home wondering each day when a decision will happen on his future."

Mention was made of the support from the Sharks, particularly coach Shane Flanagan.

"He was in an emotional state in the four weeks leading up to the grand final," the statement said. "The state he was in – he was having meltdowns before the games – he shouldn't have been there, let alone played so well."

This whole sorry episode is depressing. 2 kelly brothers are dead. Another bloke with his life up the shitter (self inflicted but still sad)

I'm sure if andrew is as good a bloke as his groupies are suggesting he'll be alright compared to the trauma those 3 lads have gone through. Time to move on.

Like many rugby league players, they grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and the sport was a ticket out. J Hayne bought his mum a house when he got his first contract. A Fifita looks after a large family.

Whilst T Greenberg and The Kelly father and kids went to a $35,000 a year school, the King's School in Sydney (see the press, the school that never tackled bullying and abuse).

Does T Greenberg understand or relate to the players? or is it just the old boys private school system "looking" after each other mentality?

Your hero worshipping defence of fifita is strange, annoying but acceptable as it's quite obvious you're a tool.

Where any member of the kelly family went to school is no business of anyone but theirs.

Now be a good gimp and f**k off back to the crawl space where you belong.

WTF? What is the matter with you?
Disgusting comment
You and Fifita both do something about those chips on your shoulders instead of trying to curry sympathy for being a******s

I agree but then again I've never suffered from depression. Merely angry with the way the NRL has mis interpreted a situation that probably should have been handled better. It's pretty poor form, he didnt deserve this shit, was nowhere in the wrong, and considering he has prior MH issues.. etc etc.

Just get over it mate no one really gives a shit any more, when does the NRL handle these issues well? f**king never. Were you this worried when they threw Mitchell Pearce under a bus last year? He had issues as well you know .

It's OK to murder someone if you grew up poor.

What a piece of shit you are.

Because when the nrl does handle it well people will still complain. And because they've got it wrong on so many occasions that when they do get it right people will complain because the player got an appropriate penalty while a player at their club copped it a lot worse ( for example if they had handled this case the right way people would have complained that mitchell pearce was harshly dealt with).
Last yeat their was an incident in arizona involving souths players and even though that matter was resolved without going through the courts the club still fined both players, moved one on from the club and stripped the other off the captaincy. That was handled fairly well, but because souths and the nrl had messed up the auva'a case so much, and players like brett stewart had been punished heavily for off season incidents in the past their was a big uproar in the media and on here about the way it was handled

NRLvader seems like a bit of an idiot, but i can't see anywhere were he says it's ok to murder someone if you grew up poor

Why raise the victims school? It's a scummy attempt to try to garner sympathy for a murder.

"Bit of an idiot" you say.
