Because when the nrl does handle it well people will still complain. And because they've got it wrong on so many occasions that when they do get it right people will complain because the player got an appropriate penalty while a player at their club copped it a lot worse ( for example if they had handled this case the right way people would have complained that mitchell pearce was harshly dealt with).
Last yeat their was an incident in arizona involving souths players and even though that matter was resolved without going through the courts the club still fined both players, moved one on from the club and stripped the other off the captaincy. That was handled fairly well, but because souths and the nrl had messed up the auva'a case so much, and players like brett stewart had been punished heavily for off season incidents in the past their was a big uproar in the media and on here about the way it was handled
Didn't Souths try to cover that up like a CIA operation?
