Nothing wrong with draws. It can really break open the comp with teams on odd points.

The answer is simple:

If the scores are level then they play extra time (5 mins each way). A field goal or penalty goal doesn't end the game. If they score a try they win. Then whoever is in front at the end of the extra time period wins or if they are still level it is called a draw.

The winner gets 2 points (1 for the draw and a bonus point for the extra time victory) the loser gets a point for the draw only.

Some sense YES

Phil Gould's at again with Golden Point.

Why the NRL must get rid of golden point extra time

  • Phil Gould

"It has only taken one round of football in 2017, but already we are reminded of the unfairness of golden point extra time to decide drawn matches.

The North Queensland Cowboys and Canberra Raiders produced an outstanding game of football last Saturday night in Townsville. The two teams traded blows for full the 80 minutes, and at the final siren a premiership point apiece would have been a fitting result.

I know the golden point period can be exciting, but it seems so unfair that the Raiders take nothing away from this performance and get exactly the same number of competition points as a team like the Panthers, who were absolutely horrible in their match and belted 42-10 by St George Illawarra on the same weekend.

It's great that the NRL has changed the golden point extra time rule for finals matches, but we need to go a step further and declare club matches each weekend as a draw if the teams are level at full-time."

Is it really 2003 that it came in? Long time ago, I much prefer a draw in regular season. Can make the table more interesting and fair reward for two teams who've slogged it out for a full game.

I've stated for a few years now that after all the preparation, travel and effort surrounding a match itself,it seems harsh that after 80 minutes of football,a team has to walk away with nothing after equally matching it with the other side.

At least that 1 competition point will make all the difference on the ladder especially when your in the final 8,or trying to sneak into it.

I've tweeted the NRL a few times after GP and they conviently ignore my feedback. I've also given feedback when the NRL has asked for it in one of their end of year reviews & again, nothing.

These guys aren't interested in what fans want, it's all a facard to us fans, they'll just do what 9/Fox tells them

This argument has been happening for years yet the NRL wont change it cause they hear feedback from the "fans".

Although they did change the finals system after Mr Bennett decided it was unfair a team's season was lost in the first minute of golden point.

Looking back at last year's semi final between the Broncos and Cowboys when it wasn't golden point but an extra 10 minutes, I thought it was brilliant. Not only was it a try that made the difference, I think the try was score after 4 minutes, those next 6 minutes were so nailbiting and gave the other team a chance to square it up.

Have that for Origin and finals and bring back draws for regular games.

I don't think fans of both teams last Saturday would've minded walking away with a point each.

Im going to get on the front foot here and shoot down a dumb argument that always seems to be dragged out before some moron brings it up again...

"Hurrrr durrrr it should be 1 competition point each after 80min and then play golden point for the other point."

NO. Shut up. You cannot have some games worth three competition points while other games are worth two. You cannon have a loser gain competition points at all.

End of pre-emptive rant.

It should be 1 point each after 80 minutes, and then if a team wins in extra time they get an extra point.
