Honestly don't know how you can blame cook when our halves are throwing the ball into support runners but okay..
His taking so much time doing his fart ass 'I'm so quick out of dummy half' inside the 20m line that by the time the halves get the ball the defence is right on them. It works further out because the defence line is further back, but close to the line it disjoint our attack

If we could somehow switch out cook for farah when we get within 20m off the try line our team would be dangerous

Reynolds has had a terrible game tonight. His thrown bad passes, his kicking game has been terrible and his defence is atrocious. Cooks service out of dummy half in the oppositions 20 has been fine. Reynolds and walker just haven't been executing last tackle plays.

How many tries have we scored when attacking in the oppositions 20m line this year while cook had been at hooker? Things shut down near the oppositions line

I just don't understand how you can be blaming cook when Reynolds kicked it dead like 5 times. Cook wasn't dancing around on 5th tackle plays. If Farah was on the field tonight we still wouldn't of executed because our halves didn't do anything tonight.

I normally can take a positive away from a game, but I'm struggling tonight. That was atrocious all over the park.

Cherrington looked good, but only lasted 15min and was a busted.

Seriously need to loose the twins.

Personally I like Farah starting and cook on around 30 mins. I agree that Reynolds made a few bad kicks but with Farah starting it seems like there is more direction. Cook has speed, that's about it

I think tonight's performance is simply a case of what might have been. You would almost rather have copped a flogging tonight than see us compete so well and do all of the hard stuff right only come apart at the seams. By that I mean that every time we had the Cowboys on the rack we made errors and when you are playing the Cowboys up in Townsville you can't afford to do that. Its a real shame because I thought the Cowboys were there for the taking.

I thought the best player for Souths tonight was actually our coach. He pretty much did everything any coach could have done in terms of preparation. I thought he got his team selection pretty much spot on by bringing Cook into the starting team and adding another big body on the bench in the form of Cherrington. Cook was brought in to speed up the ruck against a Cowboys pack that has the potential to get tired. What is more heartening is the way he has added subtle nuances to our style by deploying our big men 2-3 three passes off the ruck. This provides them with more opportunities to run at smaller men in the defensive line. Similarly, I like the way we used the likes of Sutton in wider areas to target the likes of Thurston in defence. In saying that, when we were looking to get back into the game I thought it was really smart how we simplified things and ran from the dummy half or simply played one pass off the ruck - that is exactly the thing you want to be doing in a situation where you are chasing the game against a top side. I feel that last seasons team would have capitulated under such circumstances.

Where we went wrong tonight was that we dropped the ball at crucial stages in the game. When you are attacking the Cowboys goal line you need to take your chances - it is as simple as that; at the very least you need to earn a repeat set. I thought Adam Reynolds' last tackle options were pretty poor tonight. I think at times he tends to rush his kicks. I get that the defence moves up quickly but I think what he needs to do, and this is characteristic of all great halves, is to think one to two plays in advance; Reynolds seemed to be playing too much off the cuff tonight. That is also probably the reason why we failed to execute many of our set pieces - they looked clunky because Reynolds (and others) seemed to lose their composure a bit. In saying that, I also think we need to increase Cody Walker's involvement. He and Cook are our best attacking weapons by far and it is no secret that we look our most threatening when Cody gets his hands on the footy and starts dancing across field. I thought there were quite a few periods during the game when Cody tended to fade out and this had the consequence of increasing the pressure on Adam Reynolds.

I thought that all three tries we conceded were due to sustained pressure applied by the Cowboys created through repeat sets or errors of our own making. The only try where we really made a bad error was Cody Walker rushing up and falling of Michael Morgan. The second try was simply the result of a good set piece. Sometimes in footy there is nothing you can do to prevent a try and that was one of those occasions. On the whole, I thought our goal line defence was admirable and I cannot fault the attitude or the effort. Looking ahead we will need to improve our sharpness if we are going to win games of footy. I am hopeful that this will improve. I really hope that people on here don't start going on rants about how Madge should be back, how half the side needs to dropped, how we need a clean out or how the club is going down the shitter. Lets put things in perspective: we played a decent game of footy against a top four side - that should not be forgotten.

Another very mixed bag tonight. I reckon we played okay. We matched perhaps even bettered them in the forwards, we made a lot less errors and the energy and effort was there but a few simple things let us down.

Our edge defence was average. It should have been a lot closer but some bad defence at times let us down. Then again we did a great job to hold them out at times.

Also our finishes to sets were poor, kicks too long or not getting to a kick. This only puts pressure on us and it's up to Reyno and Cody to sort it out.

Johnston: Wasn't bad. He was kept very busy and had some good carries. He made a few errors but I can forgive that. He is developing well.

Burns: Quiet. He looked good when he hardly got the ball. I want him to be more involved.

Talaki: Mixed. Made some bad reads in defence which put us under pressure and almost conceded tries. He must fix this. He had some strong runs and it's a shame we couldn't finish off his intercept.

Jennings: Also mixed. Made metres and scored that nice try but he also bombed one. A he had to do was a simple catch and pass. I'm still not sold on his defence either.

Goodwin: Was okay. Didn't get through as much work but he certainly wasn't bad.

Walker: Wasn't the halves night tonight. Created some opportunities but just couldn't finish them off. The Cowboys had him well covered. He didn't get enough ball either imo.

Reynolds: As above it just wasn't the halves night. He was average it has to be said. Poor kicks and made a few errors on set plays which cost us big time.

T. Burgess: Finally!!!!! A good game from Tom!!! He ran hard, flattened a few defenders and got through plenty of work. Most importantly, NO ERRORS!! He needs to back this up next week.

Cook: I thought he was good. Got the lads punching onto the ball and looked dangerous at times. Not so much early on, but as the game progressed he seemed to accept more tackles. He needs so sort himself out attacking close to the line though.

S.Burgess: Was great as per. 100% effort and made plenty of meters lead from the front and was one of our best.

Sutton: Was good. Spinning out of tackles all night and did lots of work. He was unlucky to not get a couple of tries tonight.

Turner: Wasn't bad. Had some decent runs but didn't notice him much.

Crichton: Good stuff! He was mean. Ran hard and on good angles.

Farah: Can't really say much because he wasn't on for long due to injury.

Clark: Solid. Did his job. However, he needs more leg drive after contact, most of the time when he was wrapped up, it looked like he was more trying to stop from going backwards than trying to drive forward.

Cherrington: Was great. He really impressed me! Ran with purpose and no errors. Build on it!

Musgrove: Was also great. A big impact, strong carries and made plenty of metres.

We didn't play bad, the Cowboys are just too good.

Defence, finishing to sets and making errors when attacking the line were the big issues. I believe we could have won this if these issues were good. The good thing is we can fix it up.

I'll take that loss as it wasn't too bad.
