Rep Round

Dragons have 19 reps this weekend.

Is it just me or does this sound excessive in terms of potential injuries and risks v benefits ?

I'm super keen to see how they all go, especially our juniours but how many will be injured and become unavailable for Dragons/Illawarra?

Are Qld doing the same ? Will the NRL compensate the Dragons if one or more of our 19 are injured?

I totally support playing for your country, but I'm glad the City v Country thing is ending.

Imagine losing (on top of Widdop) one or more of the following that are playing City v Country:

JDB
Vaughan
Aitken
Sims
McInnes
Sele
...... and Marketo

I mean honestly, does anyone care whether City beats Country or vica versa? I like to see the Kangaroos win and I get very upset if Qld win the SOO and I think they're awesome events. I can live with loosing players to those games but my main care factor in the City Country is that we don't lose anyone to injury or suspension.

Good luck to all our boys (and girls) just the same and hope they come back to the Dragons better for it.

I agree with your view re excessive games...if you throw in more tests, city country, origin, 4 nations, club challenge, pre season and 26 weeks of NRL plus finals....lotta footy ...with the way the format is now it wont be the best team that necessarily wins the comp but those with the least amount of injuries.......and who said The Brisbane Donkeys didn't get an advantage having 7 day turn arounds most weeks Mmmm

We had 3 FG players playing last night and Dugan looks to be out for a period, and we still have 6 FG players to play this weekend.

This Anzac test in May is a joke, as are the other International games in the middle of our season. City v Country is a complete waste of time.

Ever since Origin 2011 my opinion on rep games has changed as the negative impact to the club can be season crippling. Of course it improves players. Getting rid of CvC is a step in the right direction.

My preference is for the NRL premiership to be started 2 weeks earlier and run over 20 consecutive rounds uninterrupted. During the finals series a plate contest to be run for the bottom eight clubs.

All rep games including SOO to be run after the GF.

All player contracts to be registered between 1 November and 31 January the following year. Players new to the NRL can be registered up until 30 June.

I agree with this.

If they want to have meaningless rep games, keep them away from the Premiership. Better still, just don't have them at all.

The clubs pay the players to win a premiership for them. The player/s get injured playing an exhibition game and the premiership campaign is shot.

'There needs to be an investigation.'

I've always thought they should play all rep games at the end of the season.
After the Grand Final, gradual build up to Test matches, simple really but apparently not to the NRL..

1 - City vs Country
2 - State of Origin
3 - Australia vs ............

Footnote - Hadn't read other posts and have just noticed that 'Possm' stated the same concept, sorry.

Theyve managed to play rep footy during the season for the last 109 years without everyone carrying on like busted bitches. And on behalf of everyone who lives west of the GDR may i say screw you. Hate to see players go down too, but thats why you have more than 13 at the club.

As usual i thought Havilli was impressive to night from what i saw

Havili's first 15 minutes demonstrated that he should be (at the very least) on the bench for the Dragons. Although he's playing solidly, McIness fails to convince me he's a consistent 80 minute hooker.

Dugan is out for 4-6 weeks and JT could be out similar time.
Here we have two of the leagues most highly profile players in the game.
There is no benefit from these games except money for the NRL but at what cost to the clubs.

So, the panacea is the abandonment of international Test rugby league?

Good one.

It's a contact friggin' sport, for goodness sake!

Personally, I want to see the resumption of a three Test series against the Poms during the season, AND the resurrection of the much beloved (and missed) Kangaroo tours.

However, Rupert bloody Murdoch and his Super League has ruined that for an eternity.

All OK but after seasons end and at full cost to the NRL.
