Things the coach needs to change in 2018

Coach McGregor routinely professes his love for the Dragons. He is an Illawarra league legend and every club needs committed ex-players around the club helping to enhance the history of the club and assist with driving the culture. However that does not mean that these very same players have the skill set to coach at an elite level.

The love and affection Coach McGregor feels for the team will be tested closely in coming days and plays out as follows:

Scenario 1:

Coach McGregor thanks the club for the opportunity but concedes that after 3 terrible seasons that he is not the man to take the club forward. He is graciously thanked by all and sundry and is always welcomed back as a club legend. He resigns.

Scenario 2:

Coach McGregor shows his absolute selfishness and delusional nature and refuses to accept he needs to accept responsibility and grimly hangs on to his position daring the club to terminate his services.

In the next month or so we are going to find out the following:

i. How much Coach McGregor really loves the club; and gracefully resigns.
ii. How much assistance coaches Hornby and Young really love the club; and gracefully resign.
iii. How much CEO Johnston really loves the club and privately requests that said coach and assistance coaches gracefully resign.
iv. How much respected consultant Coyne really loves the club and supports CEO Johnston's private requests that said coach and assistance coaches gracefully resign.

An interesting test awaits CEO Johnston and consultant Coyne. Both of these gentleman have enjoyed strong corporate careers before returning to the club and I wonder if they would accept such poor performances in a corporate worlds as have been submitted by said coach and assistant coaches over these past 3 seasons?

WE ARE ABOUT TO LEARN ALOT ABOUT THE CULTURE OF THE CLUB AND THEIR EXPECTATIONS OF SUCCESS IN THE NEXT 3-4 WEEKS. SADLY I THINK WE WILL BE LET DOWN BADLY.

I just don't know what it will take for the board to accept some accountability. They are the dopes that are in charge of hiring staff are they not?

Well written post but you need to cast your mind back 12 months. We didn't make the finals then - no change. We haven't made the finals - no change apart from a few sugar hit player signings which will be trumpeted as what will take us to the next level.

Start with doust, coaching and the over populated admin etc. divert this funds to the junior league

When I was 16, I was busting my gut to get into the SG ball as you play with the same jersey and get all the same gear as the 1st graders . Still good all my bags and track suits (when you couldn't buy them ) It made my mates and I want to stay with the saints

The harsh reality is Mary will not walk he is a selfish arrogant wank who never takes responsibility just like last year when JD was thrown under the bus due to the fact he showed Mary up.

Collins and Head both have got their teams to the finals and I will not be surprised if both guys are not at the club because they to will be the scapegoats.

How much doYoung and Hornby contribute honestly do they even have a say and from what I have heard they don't so what is the point of them being around.

Coyne endorsed Mary after questioning gis credentials so I don't care to mcuh what input he has and Johnston does he actually have any real power.

Funny that for the last 2 years the NSW Cup side and Under 20's sides have made the Final 8 whereas the NRL side has failed miserably. Could the difference be the coaching, tactics and motivation? Surely big bods like Hind and Kerr should have been on the NRL bench along with Field who can score tries?

Extremely well put together post.
If they don't want to be graceful and exit with some dignity then a swift execution for the 3 amigos is required by month end.
Our next season has already started and we are already behind everyone else including the Dogs.

As I have always said. The key is your juniors, then recruit your country players then other team gem rejects. You Instill loyalty and keep the team young in average age

He won't resign, he needs to be sacked. The board won't sack him as he has a couple of mates there looking out for him. The squad we have next season should be top 6, pushing top 4. But with Mary we will clunk and bumble our way around the football field and be lucky to make the 8 - again. I'm just going to enjoy watching the juniors and cutters and hopefully their progression through the grades.

Kerr had a huge game for Illawarra today, as did Issac Thompson on the wing.
Kerr is a Vaughan clone.

Brilliant post.
I just left the game, my company is a sponsor and I was in the chairman's Lounge today.
Not one, I mean one Board member stayed back after the loss to speak to sponsors and supporters.
Says all you need to know about this discrace of a club.

Nothing will happen. The only formal link I keep to the Dragons is membership of the St George Leagues Club in the vain hope that one day my vote will help fix this sordid mess. Looking forward to what happens when we reportedly have to pay back money to the NRL in October.
