2 Clives for Billy Slater

The Clive Churchill Medal has been awarded ever since the 1986 NSWRL season when its first recipient was Parramatta's Peter Sterling. The only2 players to have won the award more than once are Canberra's Bradley Clyde (1989 and 1991) and Melbourne Storm's Billy Slater (2009 and 2017. In 2010, the Melbourne Storm were stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships due to salary cap breaches exposed by the NRL, however the Clive Churchill Medallists from those years still continue to be recognised.

CCM was a reward for his last 2 years, sentiment won it for him . . . Smith best on field

Funny you should say the first bit Popeye, where I watched the game last night many at the pub were saying they will give it to one of Smith, Cronk and Slater because they always do. It's as bad as Dall M awards and prop of the year and Tedesco and Hurrell nominated the best in Players Assoc awards.

Most believed it was Harris by a long way. I thought Harris 3, Finucane 2 and maybe Smith 1.

scored 1, put Kafusi through to score another and was involved in the Fox's second. And he ran for 172m. reasonable game.

I'd give it to smith however.

Smith was best on the field for mine.

Slater and Harris weren’t far behind so it was hardly the worst call they have come up with.

I'd have Smith as man of the match. He created things whereas Billy just put on the finishing touches. He played very well though.

It wasn't like 2009 where Cronk was the clear MOM and Slater got a false award.
