The Clive Churchill Medal has been awarded ever since the 1986 NSWRL season when its first recipient was Parramatta's Peter Sterling. The only2 players to have won the award more than once are Canberra's Bradley Clyde (1989 and 1991) and Melbourne Storm's Billy Slater (2009 and 2017. In 2010, the Melbourne Storm were stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships due to salary cap breaches exposed by the NRL, however the Clive Churchill Medallists from those years still continue to be recognised.

Some years ago the award was retrospectively announced back to the first mandatory grand final in 1954.
Norm Provan won it 3 times and Brett Kenny and Graham Eadie twice.

That is correct.

I just cut n pasted my post from Wikipedia. Did it on phone and link didn't paste.

I still forget they re-jigged the CCM and for mine, the pre-1986 CCMs are just MOTM / Dave Brown Medal etc.

True, they had a panel of league judges who dissected each game from their opinions of watching them and the evidence at the time.Ian Heads being one judge.

I posted my original bit more to clarify that whilst the Storm were stripped of Premierships in 07 and 09, funnily enough, the two CCMs still stand. Odd. But there you go.

I think it was good they did a retrospective list, and it was well done too. I just forget they did it. LOL.

Well deserved, biggest farce of recent time is when Thurston got it, Thurston himself admits he played shit.

It almost compares to Lockyer getting mom in the WC final in 2008 even though Australia lost by 14. At least Thurston's honest.

Thurston played poorly because he put so much pressure on himself and started running around like a headless chicken. He was gassed at 60 mins, making all sorts of errors and incorrect decisions.
