Designated tacklers for skill positions

One thing the NRL could do to ensure skilful little players like Alfie Langer come back to the game is allow designated tacklers for the skill positions (dummy half, halfback and five eight).

The game needs the skilful little players but they are currently getting bashed out of the code at an early age and only a very small few are getting through to the top grade and when they do they get bashed out of it (Sandow).

Many years ago backs would play against backs and forwards against forwards. That meant there was a place for small guys. Now we have edge forward who is to me nothing more than a bully trying to run at small guys.

The skill players should be allowed to sub out in defence and be replaced by players who can tackle for them but who aren't eligible to run the ball in attack.

I project that this idea will double crowds within 5 years.

No replies feels appropriate, but ill bite...

We should bring in weight considerations into junior leagues to keep the little kids conin back.

However, the thing that makes RL special is that players nee to attack AND defend. If a bloke cant keep up, he shouldnt be in the top grade.

This is not going to keep them in the game if they don't have role models they can identify with. They are going to go to soccer and become a Messi or AFL and become a Tablett. Not become a Kaysa Pritchard and get knocked out twice a game.

However, the thing that makes RL special is that players nee to attack AND defend. If a bloke cant keep up, he shouldnt be in the top grade.

This attitude is robbing the game of a lot of brilliant attacking skill and in fact entire ethnicities. Not to mention thinning crowds out. If a bloke has lights out attacking skills he should have a place in the game that doesnt include getting run over.

No way Alfie, Sterlo or Cliff Lyon would get a game in this generation.

why do we care if there are no small skillful guys when we got big skillful guys?

The game has got to be relatable in order to keep fans interested or they will go to our competition as they already are. There are as many, if not more, little dudes in the community as there are massive dudes. For every Fifita in the game there should be an Alfie. Little dudes bring different skills like little grubber kicks to themselves.

Rugby union has a place in its game for all body shapes.

Shit game though.

Go back to limited interchange, keep your mark sodens on the bench till later in the game.

I am not sure that is enough since the reduction in interchange seems not to have reduced size at all. Teams just get big wingers and centres to take hit ups, sharing the load. We have forwards now that dont even run in the middle, they just run at the smallest guys. How tough.

The other thing is that pre wrestling little guys COULD defend because they are ok at just bringing a big guy down with the text box old school tackle. Problem is this is the wrestling era and they cannot wrestle.
Sandow could make a one on one tackle pretty well, but in 2017 a one-on-one legs tackle is basically an error and leads to fast play the balls that then lead to line breaks and tries.
We need to do something drastic just to make it fair like back in the old days when league was tough.

We could take the wrestle out of the game by stopping every time someone gets tackled, maybe even give the attacking team 40 seconds to prepare the next attacking play
