Maybe Nene would make a good centre? I am open to the idea. I think Lomax is our best centre prospect and best fullback prospect. I think he will make a better centre than Nene. I also think that if Nene would benefit from playing outside of Lomax, as Lomax knows how to set up his wingers well.

Personally I want us to start with Lomax and Lafai as our centres from game 1. (As long as Lomax shows that he is up to it in the trials).

Not sure if I am reading this one correctly but are you saying that nightingale could start off the bench and could cover hooker or even back row position?
If that is what you are saying I have to disagree. Nighty is a specialist winger that can also play fullback. But thats his role, definitely not a dummy half or back rower.
Crush, I am remembering back to 2009 when Bennett had big Dell in Nighty's wing spot. Nighty played in the back row off the bench. If Mary insists on a back on the bench I think Nighty fits the bill much better than Mann because last season if there was no injured back Mann was wasted. I am suggesting Nighty has the versatility to play some minutes in the back row if needed. Additionally I can't see that in a 15-20 minute spell at dummy-half that he couldn't match Dean Young's efforts or, further back in time, Jeff Hardy's efforts. The complaint about Nighty on this Forum is that he is no longer quick enough on the wing, not that his skill set is diminishing.

Nene has been a massive let down.
I was expecting much more from his days at GC.

He has the build and the pace to be very good, yet at Club level he has been a weak link.
Hope he reaches his potential but i have my reservations.

He has had ample opportunity as a "given" starter for us, and apart from one or two moments has show little.

Blame Flo all you like, we all knew what be brings to the team from day dot. It was never pace or size, but awareness, effort and finishing.

The big positive is that He can only get better not any worse!

The big problem is that McGregor has a habit of keeping out of form players in 1st grade for long periods of time.

We need centres that can attack and defend. Ours can only attack when it suits them. It will be interesting to see how we fair without Dugan. Call him what you will but at least he could tackle.

MacDonald: Lazy...tick.
Unfit...tick.
(Very) ordinary in defence....tick.
Suspect under kicks...tick,
Not much pace...tick.

Personally, I find it shameful that the club has failed to adequately fill Brett Morris's old spot (especially when he should NEVER have been allowed to leave in the first place).

On another note, I question why there are some who are putting their faith in a kid (Lomax), who had yet to be tested against men yet.

If I may use a quote from one of the other forum members ( I forget whom ) but to me it perfectly sums up the Dragons problem in attack from the backs - " speed , speed and more speed " .

Just how many times in 2017 were we literally carved up , by the explosive speed of the opposition backlines ? We were more then holding our own in the forwards , but we just couldn't quite compete with a number of teams when it came to speed . Parramatta in our first meeting was a good example .

The Dragons were running along just fine until the Eels put the ball out to Jennings and Radrada and Corey Norman himself . We just couldn't come up with an answer to their speed and elusiveness from their young blokes .

Perhaps the time is ripe for that long overdue injection of youth , enthusiasm and " speed , speed and more speed " .

Well obviously JIMMY the guys he's replacing are not exactly world class centres .......it's easy to get excited about a kid when he has very average players in front of him

We are putting our faith in Lomax, because we identify a special talent who we are supremely confident that they will be a top line first grader with in 2 or 3 years. I think Lomax looks the best prospect we have had since Gasnier.

Reminds me of the faith a lot of us had in another promising junior, that being Leilua. Well we all know how that one panned out. Its quite possible Lomax will not see a minute of first grade.

In Mary we trust.

I don’t mind Nene and still remember his bullocking try against Rooosters at the Anzac game this year.

I know a little about athletics and note that Nene is fast, no doubt. However, is in that general ‘ second tier’ behind Ado Carr, Johnston from Souths and James Robert. No doubt that Carr and Johnston would be a wonderful match race.

Nene may surprise as a centre and highlights reel displays he can outjump others and catch. I trust he will settle in and have a top season this year. I’m suggesting he is certainly NRL standard and might show raked improvement this year.

Agree with a few of these comments but you're way off the mark when it comes to pace. He has it in spades, and the training staff would probably concur. Under kicks is debatable. He didn't have much to go by in 17. Hopefully Hunt will rectify that and this is coming from a huge Brett Morris fan.

Fair enough, however MacDonald was caught quite easily a couple times in the Nines Tournament.

He isn't quick by wingers' standards.
