I'm also glad they didn't go with the usual 'Play a whole lot of the biggest hits/ best tries of the past 2 seasons with the commentators losing their shit interspersed with shots of the fans' formula.

Why not? you would think these brooding 'behind the scenes' type ads accompany an ad that highlights the actual product you are selling rather than being the sole focus.

Unfortunately the advertising budget for the NRL probably doesn't allow for this, which wouldn't matter in any case because they can't time these things for shit. Yeah we won't care in a weeks time but it's about professionalism.

Omg. Are people that dense that they need to see football action to know it’s a football ad?

Thank god the people that made the ad don’t thunk in such a simplistic way
Well silly old me expecting an ad containing the actual product it’s advertising.

Newsflash buddy, NRL, and sport in general, is simple. They just needed to show the sport at its most exciting points. There was plenty over last season they could have used.

Agree. By not showing the superior product, being the NRL on field action, these marketing"gurus" have minimalised the reach and attractiveness of a great and envied sports product.

Problem I see is they only do one ad, this would be a great fanbase ad but we also need a couple of others, like one targeting kids, one targeting women and one with the best of the action for non current nrl fans to get them interested. Nrl has a number of targets for marketing and one ad, no matter how good, isn’t going to reach the different target audiences.

A very forgettable ad, combined with a season launch Midweek the week before the season starts.
Sort of sums up the NRL.
Bring back the ads along the line of those used for the Winfield Cup.

I always wondered why they called it the Winfield Cup when there was no cup

Yep the ad will sink without trace in a fortnight.

It’s an ad for football with any actual football footage.

What a bunch of idiots.

Me and my son where at the shooting of that commercial 2-3 weeks ago at moore park. There is a glimpe of my son at the end of the commercial.

I can’t understand why people are criticised for wanting a bit of league in a league commercial.
After all, isn’t the aim to appeal to casual fans by showcasing the product in the hope they become a fan.
Last time I checked Toyota had cars in their commercials. They must be a pack of morons to think a car in their ads would sell cars going by some of the comments here.
