Surely he should of said he will be finishing this test and then he will be stood down from the next test with Bancroft. Once they get all the facts the whole leadership group might be stood down.

The Captaincy will be decided at least after the last test.

Show something instead of waffling about Facts and look like he was about to cry.

If you start handing out punishments in advance, you don't give anyone else incentive to go along with your investigation.

I agree it would be very satisfying to have him come down hard now, but this makes sense I suppose.

But to not have even contacted them? To not take the responsibility and fly over yourself?? You don’t delegate something as serious to the very fabric of your organisation like this.

More like more fines and maybe missing some 50 over or T20 games....

Certainly not the bloodletting people are calling for.

If anyone is sacrificed it will be Lehmann who's going anyway.

Out of curiosity what would you like to see happen Spocky ?

Take away your thoughts on the punishments others have been handed, what do you think is a fair punishment for pre meditated cheating ?

I see Michael Clarke has said he'd consider un-retiring if they asked him LOL

I think it looks as weak as piss, and not to talk to any of them and he isn't even going himself.

He's about as useful an Ando's one marker policy.

The more I think about it the weirder this is...

Smith should resign as captain, this clearly demonstrates he's not the right person, nor is anyone else involved in this decision (i.e., the leadership group)

But what puzzles me is WHY? Seriously you have such an outstanding pace attack, they don't ever let you down - they don't need the help aside from catching... it's just surreal and stupid beyond belied - in one move just undermined any of the moral high ground Australia might have had (or proved the rest of us right about the boorish hypocrisy) - sad day for Aust cricket

The amazing thing from Smith's reaction they don't even think it's such a big deal, it shows the warped bubble all these blokes live in. Plus the coaches win at all cost tactics no matter what we have to do to get the win.

So much deadwood in the set up at CA.

Makes you wonder how long it’s been going on

Any captain who felt the need to ball tamper with that attack ain’t up to the job. Smith and Lehman need to go and we need to replace them with people that are highly respected both within cricket and by the public or the public will lose faith in CA and test crickets attendance problems will deepen. For mine we need to tap Ponting on the shoulder for the coaching job but I have no idea who inherits the captaincy it really needs to be someone from outside of the squad or they will have a question mark over them.

I do not think he needs to worry, clearly CA will follow the ICC and other cricket boards and hit them with a wet lettuce leaf.

As the VFL would say

Yeah, it's pretty strange all round.

We have one of the strongest pace attacks of the last 20 years playing on quick bowling decks and you decide to cheat? It's not like he had Hilfenhaus or Mennie sending down pies.

I also think this means a question has to be asked about how we select our captain. This longstanding policy of it being the best batsman in the side was always going to result in an unqualified player getting by the gig eventually.

I would almost consider parachuting Bailey in as a specialist captain to bat at 6 for a few years.

Australia need a clean out. Sack the coach and bring in cultural change.

Enter Justin Langer :D

You know it doesn't make sense. But you know it'll happen.

Meanwhile if England could politely sack Bayliss and install that legend Jason Gillespie as our coach then the story would be complete.
