Official NRL Stats and discussion thread

Firstly, I will put my hand up and admit I love Stats and am therefore a nerd. Further to this, I hate incorrect stats or people misrepresenting stats to show a player in either a deceptively favourable or unfavourable light.

I have noticed a few posters on here referring to or quoting stats from the League Live App.

I am not sure of who runs this app but I believe they are extremely inaccurate.

For example, I note after the Panthers game there was much discussion about Cook having 18 runs for 160 metres. Having watched the game twice I found this hard to believe, even though I thought Cook had a pretty good game.

Anyway, Champion Data is the official provider of NRL stats had Cook having 10 runs for 116m.
http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

IMO the next most reliable stats provider is the official broadcaster of the NRL, Fox Sports. They had Cook making 8 runs for 96m.

Anyhow, in this thread I will post official NRL stats and hope to have good discussion about anything that anyone picks out.

Cheers, Stan.

Official NRL Stats as provided by Champion Data for first 5 rounds.

Round 1 : http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

Round 2 : http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

Round 3 : http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

Round 4 : http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

Round 5 : http://mc.championdata.com/nrl/

After previewing this all links default to our last game. Unfortunately you may have to navigate the website to find each game. If you click on Match in the top right hand corner you can select the round and then the game.

I will be back in coming days to point out things that stood out to me. In the meantime, I'd love to hear all your thoughts.

League Live and official NRL App post the same stats!

To my eyes Cook did run those metres against Penrith!

I'll be posting stats off the official NRL site as I believe they are the most accurate!!

I have the NRL app and frequent their website. To me both are shit and I can't find game stats.

Rather than stating what appears to be an opinion as fact. Please provide us with a link to an official NRL site.

The NRL has announced that Champion data \is their official stats provider.

I find it hard to believe that they would then use stats from an unofficial provider on their website or app.

I'm happy to be proven wrong if you can provide a link.

I had a very busy day mate and I was watching the commonwealth games! I am getting onto links now mate!

Actually mate I just checked and yes the NRL site via google search is actually shithouse!

I just signed up for a 2018 NRL account for free though and it's linked with my fantasy and all that and I get the stats perfectly! I find it very user friendly actually! That is pretty much where I view most of my stats!

I really appreciate your input though and it's great but I do question why the first player you wanted to try bringing down stats wise was Cook! Why target him first off for??

To me in that Penrith game on such a hot day he just didn't stop running and it's the best running display I have seen by a hooker in many years. To me he ran many more times than 8 times that your stats specified! I watched that game back twice by the way. I'm not saying the 18 runs the NRL app says along with league live is correct! But it would be closer to the 18 runs than being down at 8. I'd put money on that too as I'm that confident he ran at least double the 8 times your stats provide!

If as a forum we are going to discuss stats it should be from 1 source. If NRL data comes from champion data then that’s what we should discuss. These would be the stats that are going on the players offical career history. Although apps are endorsed by the NRL even paying the NRL for rights to the branding they may not be being run by the NRL.

So if we are going to talk stats we should use the ones actually going on a players career tally.

Umm i think I’ll use the NRL app for stats considering it’s the official app.
Exactly what I said mate!

They are trying to down play Cookie's stats!!! The dislike for him in here by most is really strange as pretty much all our members love him!

Fancy saying oh 96m seems more reasonable!!

I'd never seen a hooker run that much in that game against Penrith than what Cookie did!!

I've got an IPAD here that's not even one of the latest editions and for someone who struggles big time with technology and the like getting that updated 2018 NRL app was so so easy and it's where I look at all my stats!!! I trust them too!

I don't really know why anyone would ever use anything other than the official NRL app. Here's the SS i took on my Ipad. Cook definitely did run 160m

Cameron SMITH,arguably the best No.9 of all time, rarely runs more than 35m, which is about his average!!
You can run 160m & be lucky enough to run 50m[or more] in one run alone.
Stats don't highlight the quality of a player, especially the metres run stat!!!

It's quality that counts NOT quantity!!

Yeah but Cameron Smith plays the game like a 3rd half. He doesn’t have to run because of all the other stuff he does in the game to create opportunities.

Cooks best attribute is scooting that’s why it’s great to see him do it. It’s not just the work he does scooting out of dummy half either. 160ARM, 49 tackles, 1 LB, 3 TB, 1 try. Stats don’t tell the whole game but these numbers are incredible. I personally hope we lock in Cook because I don’t think there are many better hookers in the competition. Cameron Smith, Api Koroisau. That’s all I can really think of. He gets better every year as well. He’s defence has gotten a whole lot better than what it was last year.

A fair few Dragons supporters want to see Reece Robson promoted to the 17 who is a very good young hooker. I don’t really know what that says about Mcinnes being the best hooker in this generation if he can’t play 80 minutes effectively with the forward pack he has.

McInnes is playing very effectively[if not expertly]given his situation & is getting plenty of plaudits & support from the right people.
Buderus;Fittler's adviser is a fan & has been for a few years now.
Ennis is in his corner too!

Saints want an 80 mins general who provides their forward's needs---McInnes is doing a great job in this regard.
His defence is not only strong,it is often first-in & stinging!!

Right, so let’s just ignore everything else because Mcinnes makes first contact, which therefore makes him a better hooker than Cook.

Does it really matter if Ennis and Buderus are massive fans of Mcinnes? There are plenty of commentators and rugby league icons that rate Cook as well. Doesn’t really make it a valid point to use about which hooker is better.

It would be surprising to me if Mcinnes is still playing 80 minutes by seasons end.

You're right, what would two blokes who have had very successful careers in the 9 know about what a good dummy half looks like?

There are lots out there who say good thinks about Cook and I'll make sure I quote them in future into this forum!
