Great move by CA

Will bring discipline and respect back to the baggy green

Players will benefit under him, want to play for him ( see his WA model)

World dominance within 2 years in all formats

The bloke is a space cadet, and he is getting the job from his work with the Big Bash.

WA have done SFA in the shield not like that matters anymore.

I would have gone with Dizzy personally, he's demonstrated that he's a very astute coach and he's not a taint licker.

That said, JL is a weirdo, but I'm willing to give him a chance as head coach. Totally different role than a batting coach, he actually has very little technical input and he's done well as a head coach in smaller roles.

I thought Boof was a poor choice and, while he definitely stayed on too long, he certainly proved me wrong. Maybe JL will do the same...

I would have given the job to whoever was willing to do it for the least pay. Zero pay sounds about right to me.

Can you name one of their coaches from the 70s or 80s? Whoever that was was along for the party.

Well given I was born in 1985, no.

If you wanna compare the way the game is played and managed now to the way it was in the 70s and 80s, you're gonna have a bad time...

The first real coach in International cricket was Bob Simpson and he didn’t get the gig till 86. Windies wouldn’t of had one till at least after that.

Agree Baz would of liked to see Dizzy get the job.

Was never gonna happen though. Since the Arthur failure CA have been reluctant to look outside their circle. Every time a future coach is mentioned, or an appointment is made to a specialist position, it's a CA bloke. Dizzy isn't in that circle so he was always long odds.

Changing coach isn't going to fix the issues long term. It's guys like Howard and Sutherland that need replacing.

Mate reports are Dizzy didn't even apply for the gig, and in 2016 was sensitive his name was mentioned as a possible bowling coach. did a post and link in the cricket thread. He just may be a man of his word and want to honour the county contract he has signed (signed 3 yrs with Sussex late last year), was also with a county side n 2016

Agree, and been saying it for years Howard needs a kick up the ass and land in outer space till the next century, well at least till im alive and Parra win a comp. Sutherland should have been booted as soon as the git hired Howard

We beat india next summer without our two best batsman will be a huge effort

Chaps was the first person approached if i remember and he told the board the Aussie cricket team doesn't need a coach.

"Look, lads. I'm a helluva captain, a helluva batsman and I've got a helluva team. I don't want some new-age hippy bullshit bloke coming in and telling me what to do, ok? It'd be a helluva distraction! Now come and sink some piss with the boys, we've got a helluva hard Test match in the morning."

Welcome back Baz. Making a lot of sense.

Not enough to make cricket suddenly interesting but still, that would be an unfair expectation.
