I think we would be best served moving on from the Moylan v Maloney debate.

For the time being the Panthers have James Maloney and we can only hope he has a restful off season, undergoes the numerous surgeries he is going to need and retires from representative football for season 2019.

Getting back to full fitness I am sure he can fulfil an important role for the club in 2019 while hopefully being pressured for a spot in the top side by the x factor player in Jerome Laui.

If I could wave a magic wand and bring in one player from outside the club it would surely have to be the dynamic front rower who can play big minutes, make 20 plus hit ups for 150-200 metres (or more), with the ability to off load and create second phase play. We don't have one and we need one. Until we get one nothing is going to change.

What bullshit. There is no way he cost us the game. By that same logic, Cleary missing the field goal cost us the game, or Cleary failing to recover Holmes’ short kick off cost us the game. Those two things happened at a much more vital point in the contest. Oh yeah I also forgot about RCG’s knock on costing us the game, and Chricton’s knock coming out of our own end costing us the game, as well as Peachey’s high tackle costing us the game.
Maloney gave away a penalty that cost us 2 points and made 2 poor defensive reads that cost us 2 tries. His issues actually cost the team points against us. In a game we lost by 1 point. These arent just poor stats which look bad while not directly affecting the scoreboard one way or the other. They directly contributed to us being behind by the margin we were down.

Cleary failed to win the game for us. But he wasnt the reason we were in that position. He just wasnt good enough to get us out of it.

After seeing the footage of him crying and being comforted by his dad. Im backing him to kick thousands of field goals this off-season and to be better prepared if we end up in that situation again. But that pressure isn't possible to replicate while training. Plus theres the chance this miss lingers in the back of his mind haunting him for his next one.

As a whole Maloney had a good season. But he cost us massively in the biggest game of the season while contributing nothing positive. This was the game he was brought here to deliver in. He didn't. He was our biggest liability. Not our only one. But the most costly.

Having seen a lot Panthers game this year, i tend to agree with this, however I think that you need a dummy half as a bigger priority. Wade Egan looks to be a good player, not sure that he is ready for a whole season as the number 1 hooker.

As with Girds and his annual pronouncements, I don't see the point of this. He didn't have a good game and we're out of the running but he carried the side during the season. Playing injured caught up with him. Hopefully he's back to his best for next year.

He failed to deliver when we needed him to. He's our highest paid player to win the big games.

Not be our worst player in them. Tamou was poor and he was the best of our top 3 highest paid players. But Jimmy is the one most of us (myself included) expected to step up when it mattered. Like he did for NSW. But since Origin 2 he has only played 2 good games.
