Its back, 1st episode tonight , Buzz is there :D

First topic is the NRL are looking to tweek the finals for 2020

Top 6 sides get the first week off

First weekend of the finals
7th plays 10th - winner continues
8th plays 9th - winner continues

Apparently 36 dead rubber matches last year, under this format there would have been 8

Thoughts?

Don’t like it. Rewarding shit teams. Even top 8 is probably too much.

I don't mind it.

Certainly adds some spice to the Finals - can you imagine if, hypothetically, we finish 10th, and the Doggies finish 7th?

Dogs and Eels in the Finals is always awesome

That's what Kent said

Buzz and Ikin like it

It also rewards the top 6 sides

I guess it keeps interest to a lot more games longer into the season

8 teams is too many let alone 10, laughable idea.

Nothing would surprise me with clowns running the game.

Dont like the "wildcards" ... whoever finishes 8th can usually consider themselves lucky

Sounds like a grab for dollars and nothing more. If they're thinking about going down this road then maybe they should look at conferences.

It's a shit idea.
NRL would be better off having a two tiered system with promotion and relegation. Now that creates interest, because even the very bottom teams of the top tier have something to play for. Likewise the top teams of the 2nd tier.

I’ve long suspected they’ve had, at least for the most of the time, a conference system for competition drawing. Not sure why the NRL just don’t go whole hog, if they’re not going to have full home and away draw.
4 conferences:
West Sydney - us, panfers, dogs & tigs
East Sydney - rorters, souffs, moanly, sharks
North - knights, boncos, tits & cows
South - drags, faiders, scum and NZ
Full home and away within conference
Draw rotates with the other conferences for full home and away, just at home and just away games
22 rounds
Could definitely extend the finals series then

Tiering won’t work. Won’t work in A League either. We don’t have the economy to sustain having teams flipping between top comp and 2nd comp

Yeah, but. The NRL boffins getting paid big bucks would rather 10/16 teams in the finals equation because that's easier than thinking otherwise.

Fair point. Could work in the NRL I reckon. Not so sure about the A-League.

may as well just have all the teams in the finals, that way we can make the finals
