Lucky to get the win but glad we hung in there til the end to get it.
Also, nice to see Lomax singing the team song in his dinner suit post match when he could of been out there kicking goals and keeping us clear of them.
Thanks Mary, still shaking my head that you were re-signed.
Mick are you sure he was singing the team song or just whincing in pain because someone was pulling splinters out of his arse

Yep, if that was us this whole forum would've felt dudded too.

In truth, youre right...the game is 80mins long, not the last 4 seconds. Being denied a fair penalty to take it to extra time is tough. Those bad ones have happened to us before, and it will again.

Rugby League is a DRAMA sport. Bad ref calls are all part of the drama, just as dropped balls 10 metres out from our own line.

Had Parker been binned for his trip, we win the game more easily.

Courageous defensive effort from both sides.

Too many handling errors in our half of the field, possibly due to the side being gassed out.

We need another kicker. Tim Lafai is doing his best. Unfortunately, it simply isn't good enough.

Yeh the refs screwed us most of the night.

That last tackle penalty on Parker after we had held them for 5 tackles inside the 20 was such a rort. We got him with dominant tackle and he milked a penalty. A proper ref would have rewarded the defending team.

But what do you expect from rookie refs who only got promoted because the first choice refs were dropped because they didn't stop the game when Nene broke his leg.

Lucky it didn't cost us.

In the face of THAT penalty count, our unforced errors, lost 50:50 calls, missed points opportunities and a well drilled and determined Manly side in winning form, I would just about rate a gritty win like that perhaps our most valuable game of the season to date. Sure, last week was great but in the end, the boys were toying with the bulldogs. A game like that one tonight is what builds character and deepens team spirit. Seeing McInnes, Graham and other forwards' efforts in defence in the last quarter, if that isn't inspirational, I dunno what is.
PS Fair dinkum! I almost think a pair of orangutans could have reffed that one better.

Pereira has won me over...definitely deserves his spot.
Ravalawa is a beast but I get nervous every time he touches the ball or tries to catch a kick.
Thrilled with Lawrie's efforts and progress.
Lucky we signed Norman, he is giving good value and has great composure.
Sims quiet for most of the game, hope he is ok.
Lafai looked anxious after his first miss....looked very unlikely from that point.
McInnes was awesome tonight.
An escort is when you jostle the kick chasers away from the ball. Lafai doesn't have to run away from the ball and make a clear path.
With decent refereeing, we win this game by 20.....and a decent goalkicker.
Manly are an injury to DCE away from disaster, he runs evry play kicks very well and holds the team together.
Impressed with what Hasler has done to get Manly competing so well.

NRL 2019: Dragons claim last-gasp victory over Manly

MATCH-WINNER: Mikaele Ravalawa celebrates his late try in the Dragons win over Manly on Saturday night. Picture: Mark Nolan NRL Photos.

THE Dragons continue to prove the NRL's heart-stoppers, with a late try to Mikaele Ravalawa grabbing a last gasp 12-10 win over Manly at WIN Stadium on Saturday night.

The Eagles looked to have done enough when leading by two with three minutes left only for Ravalawa to scoop up a Ben Hunt grubber and plant the match-winner.

Moments earlier Tim Lafai missed the chance to level up at 10 apiece when he shanked an attempted penalty goal to the right of the posts.

It continued an off with the boot from Lafai who also missed a sitter from next to the posts late in the first half with his side leading 8-4.

It looked to have proven costly when Daly Cherry-Evans crossed under the posts to take a 10-8 lead with 21 minutes to play.

Hunt had other ideas, producing his second try assist of the match off the boot to claim the win and a thin points decision over Cherry-Evans in the race for the Queensland No. 7.

The first try of the match to Matt Dufty also came off the boot of Hunt, with Cherry-Evans laying on the the Eagles first four-pointer for Brad Parker nine minutes before the break.

It took the Dragons to 4-2 on the season and continued what's fast becoming a habit of getting over the line in tight ones, having claimed their first two victories of the year over Brisbane and Newcastle by a single point.

It brought relief for newly re-signed coach Paul McGregor but his side will need a drastically improved effort to be any chance of knocking off the Roosters in Thursday's Anzac Day clash.

"It was a difficult game to watch as a coach but, in saying that, there was a lot of resilience in what we did to," McGregor said.

"We really didn't get much go our way the whole night. Every time we built a bit of momentum around the ruck we didn't get anything for it, we brought line-speed we got no reward for that, the [6-2] penalty count in the second half.

"To find that desire and that resilience in our defence when we needed to and have that energy at the right time of the game... you get the rewards in those wins.

"Our game management's been good most of the year. There was every chance tonight we could've got frustrated with what was going on out there but we were patient, we got to our kick at the end of our sets.

"Where they started their sets and the way we came off the line-speed in our d... it's good to see and it makes you proud as a coach."

The Dragons got off to a hot start, enjoying with six consecutive sets on the Eagles line, but had just a Lafai penalty goal to show for it after nine minutes.

They absorbed their own share of pressure at the other end before garbbing their first try, with a beautifully weighted grubber from Hunt sitting up for Dufty to claim the opening four-pointer.

Lafai converted for an 8-0 lead after 19 minutes. The visitors found themselves back under pressure moments later, with Vaughan spilling the ball from the ensuing kickoff.

It gave the Eagles momentum and they finally made it count nine minutes from the break with Parker crossing off a short ball from Cherry-Evans. The skipper's conversion attempt was waved away, keeping the score at 8-4.

The Dragons had multiple chances to extend their lead as the clock wound down on the opening half but couldn't find more points, with Lafai spraying a an attempted penalty goal from almost in front moments before halftime.

The second stanza turned into a dour grind and it was the Dragons who flinched first with Cherry-Evans crossing under the black dot off a clever through-the-legs ball from Corey Wadell.

He converted to take his side's first lead of the match at 10-8 with just over 20 minutes to play. The visitors were aided by a 6-1 penalty count through 35 minutes of the second half that saw the Dragons struggle for the hit back.

They came close when Euan Aitken was felled by Parker in pursuit of a grubber from Hunt. The bunker did not find a penalty try but the hosts were awarded just their second penalty of the second 40 minutes.

Lafai's attempted leveler was waved away but it was Cherry-Evans who opened the door for the hosts late, grubbering for himself deep in his own half and coughing up possession.

It proved the late reprieve the Dragons needed, with Hunt putting the ball on the ground for Ravalawa who provided some nervous moments for McGregor before ultimately grounding the ball.

It saw the Dragons climb to fifth on the ladder and halt a three-game winning run for the Sea Eagles, who dropped to seventh ahead of their clash with the Raiders next week.

Coach Des Hasler was left questioning the final play of the match in which winger Reuben Garrick looked to have been impeded by Lafai as he sought to contest a kick from Cherry-Evans at the death.

Jordan Pereira ultimately pulled down the kick as the siren sounded, with Hasler saying he'll seek clarification from referees boss Bernard Sutton.

"The rugby league gods were a bit cruel tonight, I thought we did enough to win the game," Hasler said.

"I'll will be taking that last kick, the escort, to Bernie Sutton because it goes directly in the face of what they were talking about as far as running defenders off the ball.

"I thought it was questionable. It's not consistent with what they've been saying. They spoke to us through the week about it [because] we questioned one from the week before.

"It's a bit confusing when they say 'this is what it's going to be, these are the guidelines on the escort' and they won't rule on the escort there.

"We could have at least taken the game to golden point there. It was just one of those nights."

Great spirit to win another tough game despite the coach, the players are to be congratulated. I hate that Lomax is being completely under utilised, tonight not at all despite a lame duck goalkicker and using only 16 in a tough physical game. Is Lomax not one of our best 16 players?? McGregor is a deer in headlights, no strategy and will continue to be a flat tyre to our premiership chances.

DDiehard,
I agree with you. I have been a cricket umpire for 12 years so I am aware of how easy it is to make mistakes and am thus reluctant to criticise officials in any sport. But tonight I really felt so many calls went against the Dragons that I doubted the competence of the refs. Getting Parker's trip checked by the video ref but not having Lafai's protection of Pereira checked appeared inconsistent. But you can't take that last minute decision in isolation. The constant dodgy calls against the Dragons contributed to a 40/60 possession ratio in the 2nd half and had a major impact on the flow of the game. Parker's trip should have led to his sin-binning.

I agree on the efforts of McInnes and Graham. I hope that their critics on the Forum have taken note. Also loved to see Lawrie's contribution in defence.

St George Illawarra Dragons survive scare to steal 12-10 victory over Manly

St George Illawarra survived a massive scare as they left it late to down a brave Manly side 12-10 on Saturday night.

And Manly were denied a late chance to send the game to golden-point extra-time, with Tim Lafai clearly impeding Reuben Garrick right on full-time as the Manly winger contested a high kick on the Dragons' goal line.

The Dragons scored their fourth win in a row thanks to Mikaele Ravalawa's try with two minutes to play to break the Sea Eagles' hearts.

Manly, without star fullback Tom Trbojevic through injury and dynamic prop Addin Fonua-Blake through suspension, looked on course for a famous victory as they led 10-8 as the clocked ticked over to 78 minutes.

But as blunt as they had been offensively, the Dragons found a way to steal victory thanks to Ben Hunt's pin point grubber kick.

St George Illawarra will now set their sights on Thursday's Anzac Day clash with reigning premiers the Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Cricket Ground in what is arguably the biggest regular season match on the calendar.

In a week where the club announced the re-signing of coach Paul McGregor until the end of the 2021 season, the Dragons took the lead through a Lafai penalty goal after eight minutes.

St George Illawarra were out to an 8-0 lead when Matt Dufty crossed for a converted try after 16 minutes but allowed Manly into the game with a number of handling errors.

Whether it was the absence of Trbojevic, the Dragons' disciplined defensive structure or a combination of the two, the Sea Eagles looked unable to really test St George Illawarra's line despite enjoying the bulk of field position and possession.

Which is why the Dragons will have been so disappointed to concede a try to Brad Parker just after the half hour mark, as Daly Cherry-Evans orchestrated a clever short side raid.

The match was billed as the battle of the two Queensland No.7s and Cherry-Evans and Ben Hunt showed why they are considered among the elite halfbacks in the NRL as they attempted to control the game with astute kicking games.

And it looked as though Cherry-Evans had his side on course for a famous win when he scored under the posts on 58 minutes after a miraculous Corey Waddell pass through his own legs.

Lafai was enduring a tough night with the boot as he missed a pair of penalty goal attempts.

But they wouldn't prove costly as the Dragons got out of jail thanks to Ravalawa's try late on.

The match at WIN Stadium was the Dragons' last at home for three weeks as St George Illawarra prepare for a trio of tricky away trips against the Roosters, Parramatta and the New Zealand Warriors.

    Leader Scoreboard

St George Illawarra Dragons 12 (Matt Dufty, Mikaele Ravalawa tries. Tim Lafai two goals)

    defeated

Manly Sea Eagles 10 (Brad Parker, Daly Cherry-Evans tries. Daly Cherry-Evans goal)

    at WIN Stadium, Wollongong

Leader man of the match: Daly Cherry-Evans (Sea Eagles)

Dragons' next three: Roosters (away), Eels (away), Warriors (away)

Chuck Faulkner with the late news just tuning in at just after midnight.

In Sydney but had to go to a function and completely missed the game and all your comments.

Just seen we won.

Great stuff but sounded like squeaky bum cheeks most the way.

Time for bed, OKB signing out.

Actually his strategy - or more accurately the game plan - tonight was spot on. As Ben Hunt said post game, they knew the Manly edges would rush up to counter the spin to the edges, so kicking behind the line was the plan to get around that. And Ben did it to perfection - resulting in both the tries. His bench usage, well, that's something completely different.

By the way, did you see Des's presser? Apparently Mary isn't the only one that believes kicks don't count.

According to Hasler it would have sent the game into golden point, that's how silly it's going to get in the tabloid media tomorrow.

There'll be no mention of the six consecutive penalties given to Manly in the second half. Nor will they mention the 56% possession to Manly and how they had every opportunity to win. They'll also overlook Manly's 22 missed tackles.

No, they'll say the game was decided by a ref call with zero seconds left on the clock.
And we have our own on here saying we have nothing to complain about concerning the referees
