Former Tiger Joel Caine has had a little rant over the weekend about bye points on the ladder - he says its misleading and confusing. In the replies, Warren Smith pointed out that under the Gallop-Annesley regime some time ago, they were added back in after having been removed. Caine then points out that Souths - who've won the most games - are second because of the arbitrary points being added.

I think get rid of them. Produces too much confusion at this time of year IMO, and doesn't have a material impact come end of season.

I think you summed up, answered the question and ended your one thread in one sentence.

He only cares because the poor, struggling betting agency he works for had to pay out on 2 teams to be leading the competition after 12 rounds.

Also, it was only confusing because for some odd reason under the new official stats providers, they're only adding bye points after the round is complete - where previously it was added after the completion of the first game (which is the way Fox still do it).

It's misleading either way.

With bye points you could have, for example:
1st - Storm - W9 L2 B1 Pts 20 F/A +100
2nd - Rabbitohs W10 L2 B0 Pts 20 F/A +90

Without bye points you could have:
1st - Storm W9 L3 B0 Pts 18 F/A +100
2nd - Rabbitohs W9 L2 B1 Pts 18 F/A +90

Either way you would have Souths 2nd despite winning one more game than the Storm, or second despite losing one less game than the Storm. Both are misleading to who is actually the best performed team at the time.

Answer - it literally makes no difference. Ladder will always be misleading between bye rounds. Who cares

They should be banned immediately from today.

All existing bye points accumulated up to yesterday should stand.

The bye points are making McGreggor look better! All means keep them more likely for him to stay coach lol

All we need to do is capture a couple of byes in a sex tape and leak it to Sloth.

The inevitable self-righteous hand-wringing will ensure Toddles acts before the next weekend, throwing the poor byes to the curb. No fault policy wins again.

Dust of hands, job done.
