Our family barber had Picture and People magazines to read while you were waiting. As a 12 year old, I always looked forward to haircuts...
Same as a local barber when I was a teenager. Never got a haircut from him but he had pinball machines and a couple of pool tables. And those magazines.:grinning:

Same here when I grew up in Paddington, I still walk past where the barber was on the corner of Regent and Renny st Paddington when walking back from the Roosters home game to get to the bus, yes Picture and People magazines and also the girlie calendar on the wall, all very tame now but interesting when I was young :grinning:

I had something like that blue one around 2005ish. From memory, you would be lucky to get 30 songs on there.
Yeah they were only 128mb - plus you needed a AAA battery to run it. It would work without a battery when plugged into your computer. You could kind of use it as a very small flash drive.

Christmas 1985 I got my first Walkman (as an almost 10 year old).

I still have it now and it was a f**king piece of brilliance as I listened to my Phil Collins, Duran Duran and A Ha cassette tapes.

Last Monday, 30 years to the day, my dad bought me this CD discman. The base is a charger / receptacle and you slid the slim line unit off the base and could transport it around. It was the f**king bomb as I listened to 1927, Madonna, Queen, Fine Young Cannibals and Poison.

I can imagine how good that discman would've been back then. I mean we're talking something like that in 1989 it would've been very high tech.

I was lucky as. My old man went to Singapore and bought it. Pity the bloody CDs cost $30 at the time.

Came with a carry case, headphones, remote controller and a headset line extender with a click controller too. It was awesome at the time.

Apart from JB HI-FI do any other places sell CDs anymore? I don't see them much in Department stores from what I can recall. I'm not even sure if there are anymore Virgin or Sanity music stores around.

KMart ditched CDs a long time ago, not sure about Target or Big W. Hum records at Newtown still has a huge selection of CDs, still a few Sanity stores around but Virgin are long gone I think. Talking about vinyl making a big come backI was shocked to see JB and Hum selling vinyl albums for $50

Saw some the other day at The Reject Shop. Haven't seen them anywhere else in years.

Went to get some for the old man at JB. I thought they would be 10 bucks. 50 was a bit steep!

I'd love old album covers. I can't justify springing $50 for albums of my youth like Def Leppard's Hysteria or Poison's Open Up And Say Ahhh... when all I want to do is frame them. And I own them all on cassette...CD...remastered CD...remastered CD box set.

I'm still a CD man though. Buy them all the time.

Another thing I had/have shit loads of were Cassingles. Used to love clipping the lyrics out of magazines like Hit Songwords, Smash Hits etc.

That's two more dead media...physical music and magazines. Newsagents exist to sell scratchies, Lotto and cigarettes. Dust in all the magazine racks.

This guy I know has over 5000 Rock CDs. He used to collect them all. However he hasn't bought one in years now because of the internet.

I would always front up at 9am or so on a Saturday morning. Guaranteed peak hour and at least 20 or 30 minutes wait for a kid to flick through some forbidden fruit. Remember mine also had the Aussie Post and a rare Penthouse or two in his mix.

There were some good things back in the day.

A lot of bands composed and performed their own songs.

Now the big performers are just:

a. Weasle emos glorifying their emasculation and prosecution by anaemic women doing arts degrees majoring in unconscious gender bias of volcanic rocks.
b. Brain dead tartlets teasing sexually who can’t sing and are tone deaf.
c. Make believe gangstas. 40 years of drum loops. Died when baby got back.
d. An assorted group of flips and Queenslander Origin wannabes

Porn was polite in those days. No genitals.more cerebral.

Now there’s two kitchen appliances getting it on in a cartoon that is supposed to incite friskyness.

Meh

A lot of magazines have died because of the internet. I remember in school I used to love reading Hot 4s and Fast 4s magazines. They're long gone now. I remember for a while the Hot 4s went on the internet but if a magazine goes to online form, you know it's days are numbered.

JJJ cold 100 2019

Lyrics of “ Madeline” by jimmys cheese and the Gaylord’s of the dead spatula.

“ oh my sweet Madeline, I want you to walk all over me, I would die a thousand deaths to wash your filthy singlet and smelly socks after a protest”

“ you are so high above me and all that
I am of much less value than your dead cats ashes

Can I lick the hubcaps of your a1 Mercedes?

“ woe is me for I am nothing, I don’t deserve to be spat at by you”

“ yes, I would be happy if you slept with half of your Indian pottery class, and would love to wash the sheets afterwards, if you let me”

I use to like Hyper gaming mag with the demo discs and RLW of course (when it was quality in the 90s). I'm surprised Big League still has a print version. Skimmed through one the other day and it had maybe 3-4 pages of outdated news in it and a boring fluff piece, the rest was just team lists.

My friend wrote for hyper, hung out with geeks, Was a dj and synth musician.

Now he’s in the military in cyber stuff. Loves it.

Strange where life can take you.

Alice Cooper plays an angry decision maker, from the dramatic opening of his video for the hit single “Poison” circa 1990. A guitar riff from another world.
