It’s his first year of full coaching, admittedly thrown in the deep end without a proper pre season or a team of his own.

There’s 4 weeks remaining and it is looking more and more likely we’re going to miss the finals and deservedly so. Does he receive a pass or a fail so far?

Yes we’ve had our run of injuries, however it is clear there is a distinct lack of respect for him from some of the senior players. I guarantee you Flanagan would have let Townsend know in no uncertain terms what would happen if he tried another stupid chip and chase at a time when that is the last thing required when he did it against the Warriors. Yet, this year Townsend thinks he can go and do it again. Guess what, he can because by the looks of it there are no consequences.

Jack Williams. The bloke has a lot of positives about his game, but a shitload of negatives and brain explosions. How many games has he cost us through lazy efforts or dumb penalties like the one at the start of the second half last night. Is it all his fault or is it tiredness because he’s being left on too long?

Fifita, clearly injured but his discipline has gone back to the pre 2016 days. Watch some of the game so earlier in the year where he was offloading just for the sake of it instead which was putting us on the back foot from the get go.

Feki. Come on man, catch the ball and wipe that stupid smile off your face. Also, if your centre goes in, you follow.

Prior/Woods. Run hard. You’re two of the biggest guys in our team and your job is to get us on the front foot.

Dugan. Gives 100% but please stop trying to win a penalty off every run. Don’t you realise how much harder it makes the next carry off your slow as f**k play the ball? Why hasn’t this been addressed?

Johnson. Has been having a go. Has put his body on the line in defence and is creating stuff for us in attack. Needs to be given full control of the team. Chad can organise the forwards but if Johnson wants the ball, Johnson gets the ball. There’s been a few times he has wanted it and Brailey has gone to Chad.

Capewell. I’m a fan, but If he isn’t starting he’s not playing. You can’t tell me Blayke Brailey or Bukuya wouldn’t have offered more than him last night.

Arrogance. It’s been spoken about since 2017 that we turn up to games thinking we will just need to turn up to win. The sheer arrogance and cocky attitude is there for everyone to see almost every week. It’s f**ken annoying and embarrassing. They think they are better than what they are.

Have we ever trained for situations in matches where we are on the front foot, just behind with a few minutes to go and coming home strong? We seem to manage to f**k it up every time whenever we need a try or field goal to win. Maloney was the only one who fixed this for us.

Why haven’t any of these problems been addressed? Is it the fact that no one is listening to what the coach has to say or is it just inept coaching? Surely if most of us can see it, the people getting paid to can.

I haven’t watched last nights press conference, however it sounds like by all reports Morris seems to think last nights performance was acceptable because they managed to get themselves back in the game? When we won a few games with the young guys, he spoke well, however it seems like he is determined to make excuses for some of the shit this team dishes up. Bellamy, Bennet, Robinson etc wouldn’t have a a bar of it. This is what seperate great teams from the medicore teams. Watch Bellamy’s press conference after we beat them earlier in the year. There is a trend for assistant coaches and ex players turned fulltime coaches not being successful and unless John Morris grows a set and gets angry he’ll continue it I fear.

If we’re not careful we’re going to quickly slip back in to the early 2000’s to 2015 sort of time frame where making the finals every few years is good enough/oh well at least they tried hard mind frame.

Yep 1 season ,is a cadetship. Two seasons and a complete failure ie spoon is a cadetsh*t.
Considering we this year had no Val ,Waydo out for long stretches ,ditto Woods, a chop and changing a backline in order to find the perfect match, we are not out of the semis just yet
My mark B+ ,we get to the semis A minus. We win the big one triple A .

Spot on in a lot of points.

Man..the arrogance.

What is beig said in the sheds before we run out?
Is Gal looking them in the eye and letting then know this is game time.
Give nothing and hurt merkins.

Like Lewie wouldve.
Like Ennis wouldve shown from tackle 1.

Seems like we get off the bus and everyone cant wait to get back on with as little dirt on them as possible.

I’m not saying get rid of Morris, I’m saying I think he needs to start backing himself and making the big calls. At the moment it appears like he’s being silently bullied by a few of the senior players, as if it doesn’t matter what they do, they can get away with it because they might have been a more successful player than him? Maybe I’m way off the mark, but the arrogance kind of hints of this.

Last night, he should have been fuming. There should have been chairs thrown and players called out in the press conference, considering the importance of the game and the attitude we went out there with. I’m hoping maybe he’s just doing this stuff privately, but then why are we still making the same mistakes as round 1?

Why is Chad still running side ways? As soon as he goes direct and in to the line we score tries. It doesn’t take a f**ken rocket scientist

Very hard for a rookie coach to “grow a set”, particularly the way Morris has been thrust into the job.

He will need a full off-season & a chance to select (sign) some players of his own before he can gain more control.

Just the way it is.

This unfounded theory seems to have been given a lot of traction since the disgraceful Rothfield article where something was mentioned.
I havent seen or heard anything that this is remotely near the mark.
Players not being happy about where they are selected, is a good thing. Did they ask for a release because they are so miffed? No, they came out & have been our best players.
so, I just dont get why this rubbish is even mentioned.
its a cancer.

I’m not referring to Dugan. I’m talking about players thinking they can get away with whatever they like because they think and seem to have it over Morris.

I agree, however he needs to stamp his authority otherwise nothing will change.

John Morris was put in as a first grade coach probably 3 years before he was ready.
Thats the clubs doing. The issues with Flange snr forced their hand. Having Morris there has saved them a fair bit of coin.
As far as this year is concerned, he definitely gets a pass from me, he has been outcoached occasionally but on the same token he has outcoached Bellamy and Bennett. No mean feat.
If those stupid missed kicks through the season had been converted we wouldnt be having this convo.

Yeah that’s fair enough, it doesn’t mean their attitude didn’t stink in some of those games where they missed those kicks though.

can you give me an example of a player who seems to think he has it over morris & getting away with whatever he wants?

Chad Townsend’s chip and chase against the Warriors and last night.

Fifita offloading for no reason at the start of the games earlier in the season. Surely this wasn’t the coaches instructions?

Like I said, maybe I’m way off the mark, but from an outsiders perspective it definitely looks a bit like it.

He Lost games to baby broncos twice, lost to warriors, lost to Penrith reserve grade team, lost to bulldogs wooden spooners.

I’ll give him a C

Morris is going to find out sooner rather than later how quickly your nrl coaching career can end

Excellent post!

It’s still too early to make a judgement call on the season.

I think Morris will be an outstanding NRL Coach with a very long career (Hopefully at Cronulla).
