The Bulldogs and Mary

We have 5 Origin players, the Bulldogs have none. We have two current English internationals, the Bulldogs have none. We have a coach who has coached for 6 years, their coach is in his second season. We had our playmaker Widdop out, but so did they in Foran. We had the JDB saga but they have had their issues and had to let go of three Origin players at the beginning of the year - Klemmer and the Morris Brothers. One difference between the clubs is that the Dogs admitted stuffing up their salary cap, retention and recruitment, we haven’t. They have improved as the year has gone on, we haven’t. They are not a good team but, by and large, they play to their ability level, sometimes, like last week, beyond it. We don’t. They are ahead of us. Yet with all of this their coach is the one under pressure, ours isn’t. Go figure. Congratulations Mr Johnston, wonderful leadership.

Clearly it’s the origin and international games that cause fatigue on the players, leading to the bulldogs having a good late season run, and the dragons suffering.

That’s an external factor out of Mary’s control. You can’t coach against that, so don’t point the finger at him.

They still have plenty of good players though, besides 9 they probably have us covered in a lot of positions tbh. Josh Jackson and Hopoate could easily still be playing origin. Meany is playing wing, I’d take him at 1 easy over what we have.

Josh Jackson should never have played origin and should never play origin again.

I remember Hoppa playing origin in his debut season. He looked like he was going to be a superstar. Ever since he came back from his mission, his form has never warranted origin selection.

I rate Jackson, he’s a 110% player, one of my mates grew up with him, reckons he’s a champion bloke. We watch him play a bit, he’s rock solid. He’s like McInnes a bit, maybe not everyone’s cup of tea but the bloke you want in the trenches.

Jackson, Hoppa are origin players. Not current but played Origin so that is incorrect saying they have no Origin players. Both played a few Origin games not just 1.They have also brought in the Kiwi rep player in DWZ.

Saints were tipped top 4 at start of the season based on squad whilst the Dogs were tipped to come last. That is the true indicator in how bad the coach is at Saints. Rubbish and an embarrassment.

Mary will have the best excuse for this though and that is the Saints flogged the Dogs both times. And lucky they did as they would be 6 clear of the Saints if they didn't.

Jackson may a be a champion bloke. He is a good clubman. He has a high work rate and does his job, but I don't see an origin player in Jackson. He doesn't offer enough in attack for my liking.

If true, it makes you wonder how powehouse 80s sides (particularly Canterbury and Parramatta) coped during the era of Kangaroo tours and “The Invincibles”.

Well said Witt- Dean Pay is the most underrated coach in the NRL-doesn't mean that I want him to coach SGI but anyone would be an upgrade on Mary.

Tonight’s win over a desperate Parra showed just how well Pay has got an average side playing. Guts, determination and good defence saw them continue their winning way. As a commentator said, they are building a wonderful platform moving forward into the 2020 season. What platform is Mary building for us?

Bulldogs are playing as though they know the season is over but are building for next year and await a few additional players to bolster them. Dragons are playing like a team that doesn’t know who is even going to be playing for them or coaching them so nothing to really build.

The buldogs have taken a punt on some young up and commers, maybe out of neccesity, but they have given some young guys a go, it may have taken a little while, but they developed into 1st graders as the season has progressed.

Mary's idea of blooding players is have them sit on a bench for 75 minutes or more and expect them to deliver a match winning play. Mary has never shown he has the abilty to develop players, he wants to get established players who can compete to overshadow his inability to actually "coach" a team. When we got a good team on paper last year he professed he "finally had the team he wanted" as an excuse for the previous years. The rapid decline in these players and the team since has only further highlighted he does not know what to do.
