UOTE="Outlaw Pete, post: 13769382, member: 31133"]I have never met Brownie or McImposter but one appears honest the other totally self deluded who has no qualms about throwing anyone under the bus.

One would give young guys a go and not persist with retirees.
Would i want Brownie back as head coach ? Probably not but would take him in preference to the incumbent. Would be good to have him back as an assistant or recruitment / retention guy.[/QUOTE]
Having Brown as an assistant would be awesome, but the two issues with this is McGregor would know better anyway and Brown would see himself a head coach every day of the week, I believe he wouldn't have any problem getting a gig in the ESL since having taken St Helens to GF Glory.

Are you sure you want to set the bar that low?
What do you mean? We clearly have one of the smartest boards out there.

Whilst other clubs are scrambling around, trying to find coaches from all over the world, we’re saving time, money and frustration by securing our coach early.

Could you imagine if we hadn’t extended McGregor in April? We’d have run the risk of either the Titans or Knights securing his services, leaving us holding the bag..

It was great foresight..

Browny would be tremendous as a scouter for junior talent or as Pathways Director, provided he was given a say in FG team selection.

No point developing juniors if the coach refuses to play them.

We currently have Kerr, Timm, Ford, Field, Sailor and others all worth a serious look.

Instead, we play Lats, Kaufusi, Allgood and Maranta when stuck and consequently, our team has stagnated at a time when we need fresh legs.

A balance of your and experience is important. We have enough experience. We need hunger, speed and enthusiasm to get our side back on track.

We should adopt Newcastle’s coaching contract, put a performance clause in there,
We have..

Clause 13(a) Team Performance KPI

Incumbent must ensure 1st grade team reach the finals at least once every 3 years.

Results
2014-2016 - check (2015)
2017-2019 - check (2018)
2020-2022 - TBA

Sack Mary, install Brown on a one year performance based contract which includes both junior development KPI's as well as Semi-Final participation be met. The damage Mary is doing has to stop. At the very least I am certain our talented juniors would thrive. If he hasn't met the KPI's he can walk and an established coach be found.

What we don't need is another Bennett. He made our club a mess after cashing in on Brown developed a great squad that got us to the preliminary final 2005-06 and 2008 narrowly missing the top 4 (needed to win last game of regular season but lost finished 7th).

Also, all this BS of recruiting more expensive "star players" who will leave within a few years is not going to deliver a premiership and will mean many talented junioirs leaving to thrive elsewhere.

Our biggest failing has been the inability to transition juniors into FG. The 2016 Under 20's team that made a prelim final contained the following names:

Matt Dufty
Jai Field
Patrick Herbert
Luciano Leilua
Reuben Garrick
Jacob Host
Reece Robson
Blake Lawrie

Within 3 years, our external recruitment brought in the likes of Paul Vaughan, Cam McInnes, Nene McDonald, Tariq Sims, James Graham, Ben Hunt and Corey Norman. Frizell and Widdop were already entrenched in the team.

Surely if you put the first list and the second list together, that would be the makings of a fair team? Given our weakness at wing and centre, surely 2 or 3 of those juniors could have filled the void? Instead, we've had Lafai and Aitken stink up our backline for going on 4 years now.

But alas, Herbert and Garrick left to go elsewhere, Dufty and Robson are being shown the door and Field and Host will likely follow. The fact that we have failed these juniors is one of our biggest weaknesses. We need someone who can actually coach these guys. Brown was able to do it for us before, we need someone to do the same.

Nathan Brown has shown what a quality person of unbelievable character & so very honest. All his media interviews & appearance on NRL360 showcase his qualities that any organisation would surely welcome to rebuild a club and bring integrity.
I really feel he would be a valuable asset to the Dragons in any capacity to assist develop the junior Pathways.
These type of honest and quality humans are a rare commodity in the world of current NRL that festers on BS and spin!
Our club desperately needs change and direction forward in all areas. Cut the deflectors and bring in some experience whom accept responsibility.

Yes, 3 year deal with clauses as follows:
1. Must make the eight in each of the three years.
2. Must make the top four in one of the three years.

Someone is missing the physical makeup of players that come thru and what exactly are we looking for.
Dufty and Jai did not develop physically. Host looks big on TV. Reece can play lock but to me didn't standout as a hooker in FG and we have McInnes who is streets ahead. Garrick was given a chance but not enough for me and him to show what he can do. Couldn't tackle so they say but did they rest his other abilities speed jumping capabilities sense to stay on the wing grit smarts no they just turfed him. Herbert was playing FG wasn't on show for us. Luc he needs guidance.

Must make the 8 in each his three years - doesn't define which 8. McGregor will interpret that as we made the 8 every year the fact it was the bottom 8 doesn't count, just like trys from kicks.
Must make the top 4 in one of the three years - top 4 of the bottom 8 would be McGregors answer to that.

Your right, Mary would twist this clause to suit his own desires but we are not talking about Mary, we are talking about Brown. Brown would understand the idea of making the eight as meaning the top eight.

For Mary the contract could be a blank page with the 'old boys club' stamp at the bottom of the page.
