Maniah Rudolph (Wests) and Jake Attard (Asquith) were listed for their clubs RMC teams this week. If fit, these guys could be very influential. Cabra's dwindling RMC roster has been supplemented in the last 2 weeks, with the early finish to the Shute Shield allowing Tevita Vea to join Cabra from Randwick RU.

RMC

St Marys 32 Mounties 26
Cabra 20 Wests 18

Mounties were impressive from the start, forcing errors and converting pressure into tries to lead 20-6 after 30 minutes but gradually the big physical St Marys pack started to gain the ascendancy and did all the scoring from them apart from a consolation to Mounties a minute from the end. With Canberra resting players in the NRL, Mounties lost Vince Rennie and Steve Tavita to NSW Cup, removing a lot of grunt from the RMC lineup.

Wests also came out firing on all cylinders and assisted by 7 consecutive penalties ran up a 14-0 lead in the first 25 minutes, even though Cabra managed to get over the line twice during this period only to drop the ball. Cabra crossed a 3rd time after they received 4 consecutive penalties but again where denied by an illegality in the lead up.

After Fotu scored Cabra' first try they were reduced to 12 with 20 minutes left when Milone was marched for a spear tackle and it looked as if Wests would hold them out but Cabra had a glimpse when Falakiko Manu found the line 12 minutes from time for a 8-14 score. Then Honeti Tuha showed why he could be the buy of the year by stealing the ball in a tackle and raced over to even the score and with the clock running down he set himself for a field goal but with defenders pouring through he stepped and beat 3 men on the way to what seemed like the winning play. Wests came again and scored in the corner but could not convert.

SS

East Campbelltown 22 St Marys 16
Ryde Eastwood 26 Cabra 22

Last year ECE put in a shocker on the first week and still won the comp. They looked far more resolute today and despite the Saints holding a lead in the early part of both halves, ECE always looked like they would win. They have size right across the field apart from the back 3. The Lahey's had great games, Morrison very solid and Leato and Potifara in the centres provided a lot of thrust. The main threat from the Saints was when hooker Pupu was wrong footing the big ECE forwards with his darts from dummy half.

Apart from the outstanding Tristan Evans Tsoi, Ryde Eastwood were incompetent for much of the game and very much looked losers when Cabra led 22-8 with 15 minutes to go but the Hawks finally clicked into gear and via sweeping passing movements ran in 3 tries in 9 minutes. They would not have needed extra time if a Cabra defender had not knocked the ball from Evans Tsoi's hands as he was about to score another try. The game seemed to be endless, with constant stoppages, taking 115 minutes before extra time came into play.

Wenty 38 Asquith 4
Hills 62 Guildford 20

It looks like a loss last week was exactly what Wenty need to focus on the prize. Beau Henry was at the helm and Wenty's pack, despite being smaller than its backline, continually went past the advantage line. Wenty were very dominant. Asquith will have to lift if they are continue to week 3.

Hills have now won as many games in the last month as in the rest of the season. Guildford matched hills for the first 20 minutes but once Hills shifted up a couple of gears, heat was such that the NSWRL computer short circuited with 15 minutes to go. They will be hard to stop next week.

SS

Moorebank 34 Wenty 22
Asquith 38 Guildford 24

Moorebank and Wenty went try for try for 45 minutes but then Jake Horton took control of the game. Asquith have been in a position to win quite a few more games than indicated in the ladder but would inevitably crash when the game was there for taking. Today they turned into the entertainers in the second half with a number of sweeping tries.

Mounties 50 Cabramatta 6
Hills District 11 Asquith 10

Mounties came into the game strengthened by the return of Mitch Cahalane, Ryan King and Steve Tavita to the forwards, whereas Cabra went it without their prime weapon with the suspension of Honeti Tuha. Cabra managed to stay in the game for 25 minutes but then the dam burst and it was 26-0 at half time. Mounties kept going in the second half but there will be some concern as 3 Mounties players were put on report.

Hills were averaging 40 points per game over their last 4 games but were subjected to a genuine final last night as play ebbed and flowed from one end to the other with the defence rarely conceding. There were plenty of big hits and Hills went to break 6-4. A try to each side saw a 10-10 scoreline with 20 minutes to go. The deadlock was broken when Walmsley executed the field goal with 7 minutes remaining and Asquith could not deliver another score.

SS

Cabramatta 38 Asquith 34
St Marys 34 Moorebank 32

In both games the teams that built strong leads failed to hold onto them. Asquith led 16-0 after 20 minutes but 3 quick tries had Cabra back in the game at half time. Cabra finished the second half stronger and it was 32 all at full time. Perenara kicked a penalty goal from near half way in extra time but Cabra forwards continued the charges and scored again to progress to the 3rd week.

Moorebank seemed to have the game under control, by scoring 7 tries in the first 53 minutes to lead 32-18 but crucially, SS player of the year, Jake Horton, missed 5 conversions. St Marys scored another 3 tries, the last 40 seconds from the end, to win 34-32 after White landed his 5th goal.

ECE seem to have a knack of winning Shield even when they shouldn't - I reckon they'll roll Cabra

Would be great to see Hills upset St Marys. They have timed their run of having a good team perfectly.
Anyone know why they didn't have this calibre of team in the first 3/4 of the season?

Did you expect Cabra to win? Cabra lost 4 of their previous 7 games - 2 close wins over Asquith who were 8th on the table and university. Their opponents scored 30 points more than Cabra over those 7 games. on the other hand East Campbelltown had won 6 of their last 7 games and scored 312 with 106 against, and they have won 3 of the last 5 premierships, so I didn't expect Cabra to win. The fact that Cabra lost in RMC last week helped, 5 guys that were in RMC last week played SS today.

East Campbelltown dominated early field position but excellent Cabra defence nullified several scoring opportunities. As the game wore on the bigger ECE side started to look pedestrian and Cabra did not have as much trouble breaching the ECE defence when they entered the red zone and after back to back tries late in the first half the score was 18-4 at half time.

It became a bit of a procession in the second half before ECE got a few consolation tries. Koroisau had a huge game for Cabra. Final Score 42-16. ECE may have a big recruitment task next year with many of the players pushing 30 and Da Silva close to 40.

RMC

This was a real arm wrestle with the first score posted in the 27th minute when Epa Navale was given an overlap to cross in the corner. When Brackenhofer carried 3 defenders over the line just before the break Mounties had a 6-4 lead. Luani took Wenty back in front and Henry added a penalty goal before a bit of nifty stepping by Roberts allowed Mounties to even at 12-12. The game reverted to the mode of most of the first half with the two sides neutralising each other until Eli Roberts delivered the tie breaker on the 71st minute. Wenty, who have won a stack of premierships over the last 10 years, continued their September DNA and held their advantage. In trying to run the length of the field in the final seconds, Cahalane lost the ball and allowed Minhinnick a try. A 22-12 scoreline does not reflect the closeness of this game.

In the first 10 games Hills had no more than 7 of the current 17. in this period they beat Wenty, Cabra and GB and lost 3 games by 8 or less.

In the 11th game Heath Lestrange came out of another retirement and they lost 18-14 to Mounties. in the next game they had 10 of the current 17 with Matt Jurd provided by South Sydney after he spent the first half the season with GB.

They won the 13th game when they added Lachlan Walmsley, who had been injured for much of the season and Yileen Gordon who had played most of the season in NSW Cup and they now had 12 of the 17. They lost the next 4 games, 3 by 8 points or less, with Gordon missing from a few games.

Then the started their run. There has been a lot of turnover during the season. They had a supply of Souths players through the season but at stages numbers were minimal. They finally came across the right combination and they have had a fair bit of stability in the last 5 games.

Cabra were the best team during the regular season as shown with the minor premiership I agree thier form had dropped in the back end but with the influx of massy boys I gave Campbelltown little chance. I seen them play week one and the game was very slow and sloppy . Same with the massy game with mounties having a few cup boys I gave them the slight advantage. wentys halves were the deference
