What do we make of this guy? Has been lucky enough to play his whole career with likes of Inglis, Keary, Walker, Issac Luke and Cook in the spine with him and a huge pack infront of him. He's now played 8 full seasons in first grade and hasnt grown his game since his debut in 2012. We all know he has a great kicking game yet he seldom takes the line on and doesnt set anything up for his outside backs.

If Reynolds went to a lower ranked team do you think he would improve them at all? I very much doubt it, he'd probably get shown up for what he is.

With Cook having a shocker, Walker MIA and Souths having a stack of ball inside the opposition 20 the opportunity was there for him to stand up and come up with a clutch play for his team. As usual we saw nothing. Souths have now made 5 Prelims in the past 8 years and only won 1. The constant denominator is the 7. After a similar run Easts ditched their 7 and look what happened. Would Souths have the guts to do the same?

I think Reynolds has the talent, and I think walker played alright last night. What they dont have is any game breakers in the back line. Having a Mitchell, ado Carr or Tedesco on the end of your passes and kicks can make you look a world beater. The Bennett bash and barge has had its day and they have no real attacking plays beyond it.

Souffs fans claim he had an amazing running game before injury. His body is glass and he has zero clutch in him imo

Renolds is basically washed up. His body is busted and has been for a few seasons

Personally,I thought Walker was very good last night

Warriors could use him. Leave the play making to Chanel and RTS and chuck Nikorima back on the bench as utility.

There aren't that man good kicking halves in the comp at the moment. Especially long kicking. And he's possibly the best in the game.

For all his faults (which are exaggerated) he brings more than his value to his team.

Vic, that is true. You have analysed well. I hate to say this about a South's bloke, especially a junior - who has lived in Morehead St, but he initiates very little. Only in the last few desperate minutes did he decide to take a few steps to make the opposition guess for a least another second or two to give room to outside support. Raider's defence was tight, but that is easier to achieve when the attack is predictable. It has been galling for a few seasons to have a long, deepish pass from dummy half to a standing half back who just shovels the ball on. By the time the next player receives the ball, the defence has already crossed the advantage line. Compare that to Cooper Cronk who last year won a preliminary final, then a Grand Final, with one shoulder: essentially meaning that Easts won the two biggest games of the year with only 12 men. Souths need a consistent organiser.

Cook did have a poor game - he often looked lost. That may be down to Reynolds not calling any shots, or not being in position to receive. However, the number of times Cook collected a play the ball and then had to look around for someone to throw to was just amateurish. But I put that mostly down to Cook not marshalling someone as he is running to the tackle area. Compare Cameron Smith who just knows where he wants the next 2 to 3 plays to be. He will nod, hand signal, or tell a play as he is running to his next dummy half position. That is why the Storm are mostly fluent and on song. Souths just looked unrehearsed.

Cook’s passing is often a bit lobby which gives the defence that extra time to be in the face of a receiver who is standing waiting for the pass to drop into the hands. That is a mortal sin for a modern-day footballer. It is amazing watching the crisp, flat passing in front of a runner by Rugby players who have to be exact since, in essence, they play under a “one metre rule”. If Rugby clubs can ask former NRL players to coach their charges in defence, then we should ask them to teach us how to pass (and catch in the one motion).

When the Raiders were down to 12 men and we were pressing their line, Cook was lost when he had the ball. His poor kick gifted the ball to a tiring Raiders who within two more sets had scored at the other end to clinch the night. That blunder capped a last quarter of embarrassment that saw him stripped in a one-on-one 10 metres out; forgetting how to count to six and passing to barging forward on the last; trying to take a rampaging Papalii high only to be brushed off and present a clear run to the line for the Raider.

We had a tonne of possession in the second half. We should have won by heaps. What summed up the night was the 64th minute when Walker gave the ball to decoy Graham 8 metres out who was squashed by 3 tacklers. If Walker had passed behind the decoy the resulting overlap would have seen us in for a try. Too many times the wrong option was selected.

We did better than what I had hoped for at the start of the year, but when seeing how we slaughtered ourselves, yet still only lost by 6, then is hurts to think of what might have been.

The easts example was a pretty easy decision, a proven performer in Cronk was available and they had the cap to fit him. Not sure there is a sure bet no.7 available on the market if Souths were to ditch Reynolds.

Imo most things are in place for Souths just need front rower that break a few tackles and a fullback contribute to their attack

George burgees drop off in form has hurt souths more than anything, with all the possession and field possession they get in games they really need someone that can just crash over

In contrast DCE has looked brilliant this year with outside backs not rated by anyone at the start of the year. The reason blokes like Parker and Garrick looked so good this year was because of the way DCE controlled the play and created opportunities. Something Reynolds has failed to do.

Reynolds is our MVP. His consistency is is the reason we've stayed up the ladder most seasons. His role is to drive the team into position with his kicking game, earn us repeat sets and get us into the opp 20. He was excellent at that again last night.

He has been an excellent defender throughout his career too, save for the latter part this year with a busted back.

In our side from that point it's been Inglis, Luke and then Keary, and then Cook and Walker to score us points.

If Cook didn't have his worst ever NRL game last night then Reyno has taken us to another GF.

Reynolds/Keary should've been a 10 year combo with 2-3 premierships. Thanks Rusty.
